Tomlin has been bumped from the Indians' rotation and will pitch out of the bullpen for the time being, the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Paul Hoynes reports.
Tomlin got rocked in Tuesday's start, giving up six runs in 4.1 innings against the Reds. Carlos Carrasco is the likely option to take Tomlin's spot in the rotation, which would mean pitching Sunday against the Yankees.

Tomlin lasted 4.1 innings Tuesday, giving up six runs on eight hits in a loss to the Reds. He walked one and struck out five.
Tomlin (5-8) didn't do much to help his cause for a prolonged stay in the big leagues, allowing runs in the first, second, fourth and fifth innings to a Reds squad that had lost 10 straight at Progressive Field. The 29-year-old's ERA rose to 4.75 in this one to go along with a 1.23 WHIP, 82 strikeouts and a surprisingly decent 11:88 BB:K, with a sizeable portion of his struggles due to the team-worst 17 long balls he's served up in less than 100 innings (91) this season.

Indians optioned RHP Josh Tomlin to Triple-A Columbus.
He was a candidate to lose his spot in the rotation once Justin Masterson returned from the disabled list, but is being sent out in order to add Zach McAllister who is needed to start on Saturday. The veteran right-hander owns a 4.47 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 77/10 K/BB ratio over 86 2/3 innings on the season.

Josh Tomlin allowed four runs (three earned) over 5 1/3 innings Friday in a no-decision against the Royals.
Tomlin gave up seven hits (including two home runs) while walking none and striking out five. He has now allowed 16 home runs in 86 2/3 innings of work and has just one win over his last eight starts. He's no sure thing to keep a rotation spot once Justin Masterson comes back from the DL.

Josh Tomlin went home with a no-decision, allowing four runs over seven innings in Wednesday's 14-inning loss to the Yankees.
Compared to some of his recent starts, Tomlin was on point on Wednesday. Tomlin entered the start having allowed at least four runs without making it through the sixth inning in four out of his previous five starts. On this night, he held the Yankees to eight hits without issuing a walk while striking out five. Tomlin owns a 4.21 ERA, a 1.16 WHIP, and a 69/9 K/BB ratio. After the Indians return from the All-Star break, Tomlin will take on the Tigers on the road in his next start.

Josh Tomlin struck out 11 in a one-hit shutout of the Mariners on Saturday.
Yeah, that Josh Tomlin. It was his second career complete game, the first coming against the Royals back in 2010. It was also the first time he's ever made a start without allowing a run. He topped his previous high in strikeouts by three. Tomlin was coming off three starts in which he gave up 18 runs -- 13 earned -- and 28 hits over 15 innings. To put it in other words, we wouldn't necessarily expect a repeat performance next time out against the Royals.
