Jered Weaver (shoulder) won't pitch this weekend.
An MRI taken Wednesday on Weaver's right shoulder showed only tendinitis, but the Angels don't want to put him on the mound while he's still experiencing soreness. He should be ready to rock again by early next week. The 29-year-old righty has posted a 2.86 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 121/38 K/BB ratio in 160 1/3 innings this season.

Weaver continues to feel some discomfort in his right shoulder after he was hit by a comebacker during Sunday's start against the Mariners. He has yet to undergo an MRI, but that could happen now. He will likely miss this weekend's series against the Tigers.

Jered Weaver left after allowing two runs in 5 1/3 innings Sunday against the Mariners.
Weaver stayed in after taking a Dustin Ackley comebacker off his upper arm in the fifth, but he didn't last much longer afterwards, suggesting that it may have been bothering him. He'll probably make his next start anyway.

Jered Weaver was torched for a career-high nine earned runs in three-plus innings by the Rays on Friday.
So much for Weaver's sparkling 1.23 home ERA. He allowed as many earned runs tonight as he did in his previous 10 starts at Angel Stadium this year. His overall ERA jumped from 2.22 to 2.73, taking him from first place to fifth place in the AL. After allowing two runs in three innings tonight, he failed to retire any of the seven batters he faced in the fourth. Both runners he left on also came around to score. His previous high total for earned runs allowed was eight. That had happened four times, including once earlier this year against the Rangers.
