Jered Weaver went the distance, throwing a five-hitter in the Angels' 6-3 win over the Orioles on Saturday. The Angels put a weak defense out there behind Weaver, installing Mark Trumbo at third base and Bobby Abreu in left field, but he didn't seem to mind. Two of the three runs scored on a Matt Wieters homer and the other came on a Wieters groundout. Weaver is 3-0 with a 2.43 ERA.

Jered Weaver blanked the A's for 6 2/3 innings in a victory Monday night. Weaver still wasn't at his very best, but he was able to shut down a punchless A's lineup anyway. If he was throwing more like he did last year, he probably would have gone eight or nine innings tonight. However, it took him 105 pitches to get 20 outs. Weaver is now 2-0 with a 2.18 ERA.

Jered Weaver unexpectedly struggled against the Twins Wednesday, allowing five runs on seven hits in six innings of Los Angeles' 6-5 loss. Weaver fanned seven and walked just one, but served up a two-run homer to Josh Willingham in the fourth before allowing the first two batters he faced to reach base in the seventh. He was then relieved by Hisanori Takahashi, who promptly cashed in Weaver's runs by allowing a two-run triple to Chris Parmelee. Weaver should bounce-back against the A's next Monday.

Jered Weaver struck out 10 over eight shutout innings in a 5-0 win over the Royals on Friday night. That's beastly. Weaver allowed only four hits (three of them singles) and didn't walk a batter. He actually retired 13 in a row at one point before giving up a double to Jeff Francoeur in the top of the seventh. However, he made up for it by quickly picking Francoeur off second base. Coming off back-to-back dominant seasons, the 29-year-old right-hander has officially joined the upper echelon of fantasy hurlers.

The Royals got to Jered Weaver Thursday, as the righty allowed four runs on nine hits and a walk over 4 2/3 innings. He did record four strikeouts, so it wasn't all bad. Weaver hasn't had great results this spring, holding a 5.84 ERA, but he has struck out 13 over 12 1/3 innings. He'll be ready to roll on Opening Day.

Jered Weaver held the Brewers to two hits and a run in Saturday's Cactus League game. Weaver breezed through the four-inning outing, fanning four batters while issuing just one walk. The Angels' ace should be allowed to go five innings next time out.

Jered Weaver got roughed up in his second Cactus League start Monday, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks in just 1 2/3 innings against the Dodgers. He also fanned three. Although he's now sporting an ugly 7.36 ERA through his first 3 2/3 spring innings of work, Weaver's exhibition numbers are completely irrelevant.

Jered Weaver tossed two shutout innings on three hits while striking out a pair in Wednesday's loss to the Mariners. A nice spring debut for the reigning AL Cy Young runner-up. Weaver will be counted on to lead what should be a fantastic Angels rotation in 2012, as he'll be followed by Dan Haren, C.J. Wilson and Ervin Santana. He figures to be among the league's best again.

The Angels have received permission to interview Diamondbacks VP of scouting and player personnel Jerry Dipoto for their vacant general manager position. Dipoto oversees all areas of scouting with the Diamondbacks and served as interim general manager during the second half of the 2010 season. His notable transactions include acquiring All-Star left-hander Joe Saunders from the Angels and right-handed pitcher Daniel Hudson from the White Sox for Edwin Jackson. He is also under consideration for the Orioles' GM job.

Jered Weaver was scratched from Wednesday's scheduled start against the Rangers. The Angels have also decided to shut down teammate Ervin Santana. While the case could be made that he was better in 2010, Weaver will finish the season with career-bests in wins (18), ERA (2.41) and WHIP (1.01). Garrett Richards will make the start in his place Wednesday.
