Jered Weaver (back) played catch in the outfield prior to Saturday's game. "Everything feels good so far," Weaver said. It's a positive first step for the right-hander, but he's probably not that close to throwing off a mound. Weaver won't be back any earlier than mid-June.

Jered Weaver said that his lower back strain is "getting better every day" and that he hopes to resume throwing Saturday. "You don't want to push it too hard, even though the competitor in you wants to," he said. "You have to take it slow, take each bullpen session slow, and just try to work back into it until you get that trust back and go from there." Weaver is hoping to miss ''no more than two or three starts.'' The Angels don't think his absence will extend past one month.

Jered Weaver (back) said there's "really no timetable" for his return. Weaver is hoping to miss just one start, but it's likely that it will be at least two or three. The Angels don't think his absence will extend past one month. "There's really no timetable," Weaver said. "It's just a matter of how my body responds to everything and how I bounce back from the treatments. That'll tell us when we can get into the stabilizing stuff, the core stuff, to kind of stabilize that part of the back."

Jered Weaver will undergo X-rays and an MRI on his back on Tuesday. Weaver left Monday's start against the Yankees after just 12 pitches due to what was described as a lower back injury. The team won't make a decision about a possible stint on the disabled list until the test results are known. "I really don't have any answers right now," Weaver said after Monday's game. "I've just got to wait for those MRIs and X-rays to come back. We'll keep our fingers crossed." If Weaver needs an extended absence, the Angels will likely call up Garrett Richards from Triple-A Salt Lake.

Jered Weaver left Monday's start against the Yankees in the first inning with an apparent injury. Weaver threw just 12 pitches before suffering the injury. He attempted to throw a warm-up pitch to see if he could continue, but he had trouble putting weight on his left leg. He gave up one run on two hits and an error before leaving the game. Bobby Cassevah has replaced him in relief. Stay tuned for an update on his status.

Jered Weaver held the Padres to two runs and three hits in seven innings to win Friday. Weaver rebounded well from his poor outing against the Rangers and improved to 6-1 on the season. He wasn't at his most dominant tonight, with just four strikeouts, but he was plenty good enough to outduel Jeff Suppan.

Jered Weaver was lit up by the Rangers on Sunday, surrendering eight runs in 3 1/3 innings to take his first loss. That's just one run fewer than Weaver had given up in his eight starts combined. Weaver has given seven runs in a start just four times the last three years and three of those shellings have come in Arlington. We wonder if there might not be more rumors of sign stealing after this one, particularly after C.J. Wilson opted to go with multiple signs from the catcher with no one on base Saturday.

Jared Weaver pitched his way into the record books on Wednesday night against the Twins, throwing his first career no-hitter, and the 10th in team history. Weaver struck out nine and walked none in the magnificent outing. The only thing keeping Weaver's gem from being a perfect game, was Chris Parmelee who reached base on a passed ball after striking out in the second inning. Making the night even more special for Weaver, his parents were on hand to enjoy the outing. He's now 4-0 on the season with a tremendous 1.61 ERA. He's looking like an early favorite to win the Cy Young in the American League, and will look to continue his strong start when he takes on these same Minnesota Twins in Minnesota on Monday.

Jered Weaver turned in another very strong performance against the Indians on Friday, allowing no runs on seven hits in his six innings of work. Weaver struck out eight and walked four in the game, but needed 115 pitches to get through the sixth inning. Weaver left with a 2-0 lead, but Hisanori Takahashi and Scott Downs wasted no time handing those runs back to the Indians in the seventh. Weaver still sits at 3-0 and lowered his ERA 2.02 on the season. He'll again search for win number four when he takes on the Twins next week.
