Jason Vargas allowed three late runs after seven scoreless innings of work, but the Royals held on to beat the Indians on Tuesday. Vargas cruised through seven innings and recorded two quick outs in the eighth before a single and a HBP precluded Jason Kipnis' two-run double. Vargas was yanked, but Kipnis was allowed to score as well, giving the southpaw three earned runs charged against him in 7 2/3 innings of work. Vargas struck out five while allowing six hits overall. With the win, Vargas moved to 6-2 with a 3.30 ERA and 1.21 WHIP through 14 starts. He'll take on the Tigers on Monday.
