Jake Peavy said Thursday that he would be disappointed if he doesn't make 30 starts this season.
It's nice to have goals, but Peavy hasn't made 30 starts in a season since 2007 as a member of the Padres. The 30-year-old right-hander recently admitted that he isn't the same pitcher he was before shoulder surgery, so he's not worth more that a late-round flier in mixed fantasy leagues.

Jake Peavy (shoulder) told the Chicago Tribune this weekend: "I'm as 100 percent as I can be."
"I don't know if I'm 100 percent as to what I was four years ago," the 30-year-old right-hander continued. "I know I'm as 100 percent as 100 percent is going to get after what I had done (surgically). I guess that's the best way to say it." Peavy had a 4.92 ERA in 111 2/3 innings last season and should be nothing more than a late-round flier pick in mixed league fantasy drafts this spring.

Jake Peavy believes he has ''a lot left in the tank'' and is ready to test what's left of his surgically repaired right arm this spring.
"There's no doubt that they told me 12 to 18 months out of surgery you are as good as you are going to get,'' Peavy said. ''I've done all the rehab. We've done all the work. You know, who I am is who I am, and hopefully it's a tick better and the guy we saw flashes of at times last year.'' Peavy is in the last season of a three-year, $52 million contract signed in 2010. The White Sox hold a $22-million club option for 2013 with a $4 million buyout.

The White Sox have shut down Jake Peavy for the rest of the season.
"Hopefully a few days' rest and the offseason will help Peavy go back to what he was," Chicago manager Ozzie Guillen said. "I don't think there is any reason to go out and push something you don't have to and (make) it worse." Peavy has admitted that he still doesn't feel 100 percent recovered from his shoulder surgery, and while there wasn't really worry that he would re-injure himself, it makes sense to go ahead and shut him down since the Sox are out of the race. "The decision's been made and I think it's a good one," Peavy said. "Obviously, it has been a grind." The right-hander finishes the season 7-7 with a 4.92 ERA in 111 2/3 innings. It's not clear who will take his spot in the rotation on Wednesday, but Dylan Axelrod is one option.

Barring something unforeseen, the White Sox have shut down Jake Peavy for the season.
Manager Ozzie Guillen said earlier this week that Peavy would make one more start, but evidently they've decided to go ahead and pull the plug now. White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said Wednesday that Jake Peavy will get at least one more start this season.
Peavy tossed 6 1/3 shutout innings against the Twins on Tuesday, but continues to hint that he is pitching at less than 100 percent. Ozzie Guillen has said that the veteran right-hander could be shut down if the White Sox are eliminated from playoff contention, but he isn't ready to go there quite yet. "No not yet," said Guillen. "I think we should keep it the same way. Right now I don't think I'm going to throw in the towel. If they want to throw in the towel that's their problem." The White Sox have Phil Humber and Zach Stewart scheduled to pitch on Saturday and Sunday, so barring a last-minute change, Peavy will make his next start Monday against the first-place Tigers. We believe this could be his last start of the season, so look elsewhere in mixed leagues.

Jake Peavy hurled 6 1/3 shutout innings Tuesday against the Twins, striking out nine in a 3-0 victory.
He gave up just four hits and two walks. Peavy admitted following his last start that he is dealing with some fatigue issues and White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said he could be shut down if the team is eliminated from playoff contention. Obviously all Peavy needed to turn things around was a date in Minnesota against a team that has been waving the white flag for awhile now. Peavy improved to 7-7 with a 4.92 ERA.

White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said Jake Peavy could be shut down if the team is eliminated from playoff contention.
It's the smart move, especially since the Sox currently have co-No. 5 starters in Philip Humber and Zach Stewart. Peavy admitted following his last start that he is dealing with some fatigue issues, and it's clear he's still not his normal self yet after coming back from last year's surgery. He holds a 5.21 ERA over 18 games.

Jake Peavy will make his next start Tuesday against the Twins.
Peavy admitted following Wednesday's start that he is currently dealing with some fatigue issues, but the White Sox have no plans to shut him down yet. That could change depending upon what happens this weekend against the first-place Tigers. Peavy is not a recommended fantasy option at the moment.

Jake Peavy gave up six runs in five innings Wednesday in a loss to the Twins.
All six runs came in the first, as both Jason Kubel and Luke Hughes homered off him. Peavy was strong after that, allowing just two more hits and no walks, but the damage was already done and the White Sox ended up losing 7-6.
