White Sox transferred RHP Gavin Floyd from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list. The move clears a spot for the newly-claimed Mike McDade on the 40-man roster. Floyd is slated to undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery on his right elbow and will likely miss the early part of 2014.

Gavin Floyd needs Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery and is expected to miss the next 14-19 months. USA Today's Bob Nightengale reported the news this weekend and it was confirmed by the White Sox on Monday. Floyd will be out for the remainder of the 2013 season and a large chunk of the 2014 campaign. He had a 5.18 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 25/12 K/BB ratio in 24 1/3 innings this year before injuring both his flexor muscle and ulnar collateral ligament in late April. Floyd, 30, will be a free agent in November.

USA Today's Bob Nightengale reports that Gavin Floyd "tentatively" plans to have Tommy John surgery. The main issue with Floyd's elbow is a tear of his flexor muscle. However, his ulnar collateral ligament is also unstable, and if a doctor just went in to operate on his flexor muscle, there's a good chance the ligament would be damaged further. Floyd will receive a third opinion on Monday, but, barring a surprise, expect him to have season-ending surgery.

A second opinion on Gavin Floyd's right elbow has confirmed a tear of his flexor muscle. He will get a third opinion from Dr. David Altchek on Monday in New York. Floyd admitted Thursday that surgery is a possibility, and it seems likely that he'll have an operation if Altchek offers a similar diagnosis. If Floyd does go under the knife, it will probably end his season.

Gavin Floyd is seeking multiple medical opinions on the status of his strained right elbow. Floyd has officially been diagnosed with a flexor muscle strain in his right elbow and was placed on the 15-day disabled list earlier this week. An MRI taken Saturday ruled out any major structural damage, but this is the right-hander's third elbow injury in the past 11 months and he is hoping to finally get some useful answers.

White Sox placed RHP Gavin Floyd on the 15-day disabled list with a flexor muscle strain in his right elbow. Floyd suffered the injury during Saturday's start. It's not clear at this time how long the right-hander will be sidelined. The White Sox will use Hector Santiago in the rotation for now, but John Danks (shoulder) could be ready to return before long.

White Sox manager Robin Ventura confirmed after Saturday's game that Gavin Floyd will be placed on the disabled list with a flexor muscle strain in his right elbow. Hector Santiago will take over Floyd's spot in the White Sox rotation and Deunte Heath will be recalled from Triple-A to join the bullpen. Floyd missed around three weeks with a similar injury during the 2012 season.

Gavin Floyd was removed in the third inning Saturday with a flexor muscle strain in his right elbow. Floyd spent time on the disabled list with the same ailment in 2012 and is likely headed back. Hector Santiago may be a candidate to take his place in the rotation. Floyd allowed two runs in 2 2/3 innings to the Rays on Saturday night before being lifted.

Gavin Floyd was removed from Saturday's game against the Rays in the third inning with an undisclosed injury. No word yet on the cause or extent of the injury. The White Sox should release an update on his status shortly. Floyd surrendered two runs on two hits and a pair of walks over 2 2/3 innings before departing.

Gavin Floyd dropped to 0-3 after allowing four runs in 4 1/3 innings Monday against the Blue Jays. Floyd has a solid enough 18/7 K/BB ratio in 15 2/3 innings this year, but he's already allowed three homers among his 22 hits. His velocity has been OK, so maybe there's some bad luck involved. He'll have every chance to turn it around with the Twins and Rays next on the schedule.
