Blue Jays signed RHP Dustin McGowan to a two-year extension.
Terms of the new contract have not been released, but Toronto holds a team option in Year Three. The 29-year-old right-hander was arbitration-eligible for the final time this past winter and thus set to hit the free agent market after the season. He's currently nursing a foot injury that might end his quest to win the Jays' fifth starter job.

The Blue Jays have no timetable for Dustin McGowan's (foot) return.
"It looks like he's going to be fine," Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos said. McGowan, however, will need to be evaluated further before a rehabilitation schedule is formulated. McGowan was forced from Sunday's game with a right foot injury. It was most unfortunate timing for the veteran, as he's battling Aaron Laffey and Kyle Drabek for a spot in Toronto's rotation.

Dustin McGowan was forced from Sunday's game in the second inning with a right foot injury.
The severity of the injury is not yet known, but a setback could impact McGowan's quest as the Jays' fifth starter. Aaron Laffey and Kyle Drabek are also in consideration for Toronto's rotation this spring.

Dustin McGowan was knocked around for five runs on six hits over 2 1/3 innings Tuesday in a start against a group of Yankees' minor leaguers.
He threw 40 out of 68 pitches for strikes while walking two and striking out five. While the line was pretty ugly, McGowan felt fine physically and admitted that he didn't have the same adrenaline rush facing minor league hitters. The 29-year-old right-hander has yet to make it through three innings this spring, but he's a good bet to open the year as the Jays' fifth starter since he's out of options.

Blue Jays and RHP Dustin McGowan avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $600,000 contract.
McGowan made his way back to the big leagues for the first time since 2008 this past season, posting an ugly 6.43 ERA and 20/13 K/BB ratio over 21 innings. The 29-year-old right-hander was arbitration-eligible for the final time this winter.

Dustin McGowan did a solid job in a no-decision against the Yankees Friday, giving up three runs on three hits and two walks over five innings in a 5-4 win.
McGowan found out he was starting just a couple hours before first pitch, as scheduled starter Brett Cecil cut up his finger. He left with the lead, but the Blue Jays' bullpen wasn't able to hold it. Not surprisingly, McGowan hasn't been terrible sharp in his first three outings since 2008, posting a 7.50 ERA. He'll get another star next week against the Angels.

Dustin McGowan will start Sunday against the Orioles.
Luis Perez, who allowed eight runs over just 2 23 innings Tuesday against the Red Sox, will have his turn in the rotation skipped. McGowan hasn't started a major league game since 2008 and should probably be avoided for mixed league fantasy purposes.

Blue Jays manager John Farrell indicated Wednesday that Dustin McGowan could replace Luis Perez in the starting rotation Sunday against the Orioles.
Perez is still listed as the starter, but the Blue Jays are considering a change after he allowed eight runs over just 2 2/3 innings on Tuesday against the Red Sox. "There's discussion about that," said Farrell. "Right now, we're anticipating Luis going to start on Sunday. We may determine some time in the next couple of days that we may look to make a shift there and start Dustin in that spot." McGowan allowed three runs over four innings Tuesday in his first appearance in the big leagues since 2008, but was being groomed as a starter in the minors. He could hold some value in AL-only leagues down the stretch.

Dustin McGowan struggled Tuesday in his first major league appearance since July of 2008, giving up three runs on five hits and three walks over four relief innings in a loss to the Red Sox.
The good news, though, is that McGowan's fastball was touching 96 mph and he struck out five over his four frames. It's a great story, as McGowan's career had been in serious jeopardy due to a series of shoulder an arm injuries. He could wind up getting some starts down the stretch.

Blue Jays activated RHP Dustin McGowan from the 60-day disabled list.
McGowan hasn't pitched in a major league game since 2008 because of shoulder surgery and a string of subsequent arm injuries. The 29-year-old looked sharp during a lengthy minor league rehab assignment and should do fine as a long reliever for Toronto. He also has the ability to make spot starts.
