Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos indicated Friday that Dustin McGowan (forearm) will likely be activated from the disabled list soon. McGowan hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2008, but there's a good chance he'll be back in the big leagues in the next couple of days. Now 29 years old, he has a 2.80 ERA and 35/14 K/BB ratio over 12 rehab starts between High-A Dunedin and Double-A New Hampshire. It's not clear if he'll return as a starter or reliever.

Dustin McGowan (forearm) tossed four shutout innings Tuesday in his latest minor league rehab start with Double-A New Hampshire. McGowan allowed four hits while striking out three and walking just one. He now has a 1.90 ERA and 24/10 K/BB ratio over 23 2/3 innings in nine appearances between High-A Dunedin and Double-A New Hampshire. Now 29 years old, McGowan hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2008, but he is currently on track to rejoin the Blue Jays in September.

Dustin McGowan (forearm) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Saturday with Single-A Dunedin. McGowan will throw only two innings in his rehab debut but should progress quickly to normal starter-length outings. He hasn't appeared in a major league game since 2008 due to shoulder problems and recently began experiencing forearm stiffness. The hope is that all those injury problems are now behind him.

Updating a previous item, Dustin McGowan (forearm) was able to make it through a bullpen session Monday without any issues. We heard earlier today that McGowan was shut down last week due to forearm soreness, but it didn't keep him off a mound for long. The oft-injured right-hander made some major strides while pitching in extended spring training, though it's not clear when he'll go out on an official rehab assignment.

Dustin McGowan was recently shut down due to forearm stiffness. McGowan was finally starting to get back on track during extended spring training, but Blue Jays manager John Farrell said Monday he felt "a little bit of forearm stiffness" during a bullpen session last week. While an MRI revealed no structural damage, he won't throw a bullpen session again until the Jays feel he is ready. McGowan hasn't pitched in the majors since undergoing shoulder surgery in 2008, but he previously underwent Tommy John surgery in 2004.
