It's the 35-year-old's second season in Miami, and this one is starting to shape up extremely similar to the first one. Last season, McGowan had an ERA of 2.82 with a WHIP of 1.22 in 67 innings, and is posting just a slightly better ERA with a WHIP of 1.16 this year. Despite the consistency, the veteran reliever hasn't faced many batters in stressful situations, limiting his fantasy potential in even the deepest leagues.

McGowan allowed only two hits, including a solo home run, while striking out three over three innings of relief to pick up the win in Tuesday's victory over the Phillies.

EDGE Analysis

He came into the game after Justin Nicolino injured his finger on a bunt in the bottom of the third inning and, a mistake to Howie Kendrick aside, McGowan looked sharp in earning his second win of the season. The right-hander has been solid in long relief on a staff whose starters rarely go deep, and he now has a 3.86 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 24:11 K:BB in 25.2 innings. If the Marlins' offense continues its recent improvement, McGowan could vulture a handful more wins over the rest of the season.

McGowan has allowed 10 earned runs across 22.2 innings out of the Marlins' bullpen this season.

EDGE Analysis

The veteran right-hander has given up four runs on nine hits and four walks over 9.2 innings in May, and the Marlins have lost the past six games he has appeared in. McGowan is largely relegated to mop-up duty at this point, but those opportunities could be plentiful if Miami continues to struggle.
