Joel Sherman of the New York Post writes that the Mets will be "open-minded" if teams inquire about third baseman David Wright.
"Here is the problem," said an AL personnel man. "The industry values David Wright as a good to very good player who might already be trending the wrong way and is about to get very expensive. A lot of teams like the Rockies and Angels need a third baseman. But the return package will be good, not great." Wright has one guaranteed year remaining on his contract at $15 million and the Mets hold an option for 2013 at $16 million with a $1 million buyout. However, if he is traded, Wright can void the option for 2013. In addition to the Rockies and Angels, the Tigers and Mariners have been speculated as potentially interested parties.

SI's Jon Heyman reports the Mets plan to interview Jon Riggleman for their vacant bench coach position.
Riggleman was in his third season managing the Washington Nationals this year before resigning 75 games into the season over disputes on his job status and coaches undermining his authority. He appears to be a strong candidate for the Mets given his familiarity with the National League and NL East division.

According to Troy Renck of the Denver Post, opposing executives expect the Rockies to be "aggressive" in their pursuit of Mets' third baseman David Wright.
The Mets have said Wright is not available, but things could change if they are able to re-sign Jose Reyes. The 28-year-old third baseman is owed $15 million next year, but his $16 million club option for 2013 will become void in the event of a trade. Renck expects the Rockies to "cast a wide net" if they can't get Wright, with Kevin Youkilis, Chase Headley and Pedro Alvarez among the potential alternatives. The Rockies haven't ruled out Ian Stewart getting another chance at the hot corner, but he remains a potential non-tender candidate this winter.

The Mets exercised the 2013 option on manager Terry Collins.
Mets general manager Sandy Alderson made the announcement prior to Tuesday's game. While the Mets have faded down the stretch, Collins has done an admirable job in his first season with the club, entering Tuesday's action with a 76-84 record. With the option exercised, he will effectively avoid lame duck status in 2012.

David Wright delivered a go-ahead RBI double in a 2-1 win over the Phillies in the first game of a doubleheader against the Phillies on Saturday.
He put them ahead in the bottom of the eighth inning after Val Pascucci tied the game with a solo homer an inning earlier. Wright finished the afternoon 1-for-3 with a walk. The 28-year-old is batting just .257 with 14 home runs and a .784 OPS over 373 at-bats this season, but if the Mets follow through on modifications to Citi Field, he should be an excellent value in 2012.

David Wright has committed eight errors in his past 10 games.
Wright has made 18 errors on the season, and is sporting a -9.2 UZR. That would be the second worst in the majors amongst third baseman had Wright played enough innings to qualify. His -1.1 dWAR leaves him with a WAR of just 1.6 through 90 games.

David Wright stole his 12th base in Wednesday's loss to the Nationals.
The swipe was the 150th of Wright's career, making him just the 13th active player with at least 150 home runs and steals. Still only 28 years old, Wright still has years of elite fantasy production ahead of him as long as he can stay healthy.

David Wright won't be in the starting lineup for the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Braves.
Good news for rookie right-hander Julio Teheran, who will start the nightcap for Atlanta. Angel Pagan and Jason Bay will also be on the bench.
