Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports that Carlos Gonzalez (appendectomy) will be released from the hospital on Saturday.
Gonzalez was hospitalized late Saturday night and required an emergency appendectomy. He will be shut down from any activities for the next two weeks until he's re-examined. With plenty of time to rest and heal up, this shouldn't affect his availability for the start of spring training.

Rafael Rojas reports that Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez underwent an emergency appendectomy late Friday night.
The 28-year-old is currently recovering from the procedure and listed in stable condition. Set to take over the everyday job in center field and as the team's leadoff hitter, CarGo remains one the most immensely talented players in the game. He'd be one of the first names called in every fantasy draft if he could only manage to stay on the field consistently.

Rockies manager Walt Weiss believes Carlos Gonzalez will be able to handle center field in 2014.
Colorado penciled CarGo into center when they traded Dexter Fowler to the Astros. "It's something that's been the topic of conversation," Weiss said, when asked if it was fair to ask Gonzalez to play center. "We want to be careful. Not that you can prevent every injury, but it's my job to give him a break here and there and save his legs, because he is going to be running around that big outfield in center field. ... I think Cargo is excited about it. He's going to come into spring training knowing that he's going to have to do that and play that position."

Carlos Gonzalez (finger) said he "felt really good" while taking 50 swings off the batting tee at Coors Field on Monday.
It's the first time he's tested out his sprained right middle finger since playing in the instructional league. "It's getting stronger. It felt really good. No issues," said Gonzalez. "I am happy with how it feels." CarGo decided against surgery on the finger and doesn't want to change the way he grips the bat, worrying that it will compromise his power. It's certainly something to monitor going forward.

Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports that Rockies manager Walt Weiss is considering using Carlos Gonzalez as his leadoff hitter for the upcoming season.
The Rockies have a vacancy at the top of the order after dealing Dexter Fowler to the Astros, and the oft-injured superstar has experience in that role. Whoever wins the position battles at second base or left field would also be candidates to leadoff, but it appears that CarGo is the favorite at the moment. If so, it would be a detriment to his RBI chances, but should boost his runs scored and potentially stolen base totals.

Carlos Gonzalez has been named the 2013 National League Gold Glove winner in left field.
It's his third win in the last three years. Gonzalez was able to capture the award despite missing most of the last two months of the season due to injury. He beat out the Pirates' Starling Marte and the Mets' Eric Young, Jr.

Carlos Gonzalez, Starling Marte and Eric Young have been named finalists for the National League Gold Glove award in left field.
CarGo won in 2010 and again last year and is a fine candidate to take home the hardware for a third time. He faces a worthy adversary in Marte, though, who is a finalist in his first full season at the big league level. The winner will be announced next week.

Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the Rockies have talked to Carlos Gonzalez about the possibility of playing center field next season.
CarGo was receptive to the idea as long as it becomes his primary position and he doesn't have to shuttle back and forth between center and left field. While a move to center for Gonzalez isn't a slam dunk, Renck notes the fact that it's even a possibility means that the Rox are willing to listen to trade offers for Dexter Fowler. Fowler will make $7.35 million in 2014 and is under team control through 2015.

Carlos Gonzalez has decided against having surgery on his sprained right middle finger.
Gonzalez has been mulling over the possibility of surgery for weeks, but he was encouraged with his progress during an instructional league game last week and believes that his finger will heal if he shuts things down until December. There are no guarantees that he would regain flexibility in the finger if he has surgery, so he'll attempt to avoid it for now, but it's always possible the idea could be revisited later. For what it's worth, Troy Renck of the Denver Post notes that surgery would leave the finger immobilized for 6-to-8 weeks and would be followed by 4-to-6 weeks of rehabilitation.

Carlos Gonzalez (finger) will play in 2-3 instructional league games this week.
CarGo is expected to begin playing on Wednesday. If he continues to have discomfort, he will undergo surgery on his right middle finger. He hasn't been able to shake it so far, but he's obviously doing everything he can to avoid it.
