Carlos Gonzalez has decided against having surgery on his sprained right middle finger. Gonzalez has been mulling over the possibility of surgery for weeks, but he was encouraged with his progress during an instructional league game last week and believes that his finger will heal if he shuts things down until December. There are no guarantees that he would regain flexibility in the finger if he has surgery, so he'll attempt to avoid it for now, but it's always possible the idea could be revisited later. For what it's worth, Troy Renck of the Denver Post notes that surgery would leave the finger immobilized for 6-to-8 weeks and would be followed by 4-to-6 weeks of rehabilitation.
