Workman was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket on Wednesday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Workman is expected to start Thursday against the Yankees, Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald reports.
The loser of eight straight decisions at the major league level, Workman finally pulled it together in his last outing, with 6.2 innings of one-run ball for Triple-A Pawtucket. Workman is expected to be added back onto the active roster Wednesday in anticipation of him making his 13th start of the year Thursday opposite Chris Capuano.

Workman allowed one run on three hits and two walks with six strikeouts in 6.2 innings for Triple-A Pawtucket on Friday. He was making his first start for the PawSox since getting demoted from Boston.
This was Workman's best outing in a long time, but he continued a trend of giving up long balls. He allowed one Friday and has now given up 10 homers in 61.1 innings in the minors. Between Boston and Pawtucket, Workman's ceded 20 long balls in 134.1 innings.

Workman was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket on Sunday, Alex Speier of WEEI.com reports.
The Red Sox wasted little time in demoting Workman after he was torched for seven runs on 10 hits over 3.1 innings on Saturday against the Mariners. While Saturday's effort certainly wasn't encouraging, it doesn't look like Workman will stay in the minors for long, as the impending roster expansion on Sept. 1 should allow him to make a quick return back to the major league roster. Workman could even reclaim a rotation spot upon returning, since the Red Sox technically won't need a fifth starter again until September.

Workman struck out three and walked one while giving up seven runs on 10 hits over 3.1 innings Saturday.
The right-hander needed 84 pitches to record 10 outs, and the seven runs allowed were a season high. Workman is currently lined up to oppose the Rays in Tampa Bay on Friday, but an off-day Thursday affords the Red Sox flexibility if they have the desire to skip Workman's turn in the rotation during the upcoming week.

Workman allowed two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five in seven innings in Monday night's loss to the Angels. An encouraging sign for the 25-year-old right-hander, who had a 6.35 ERA in his previous five starts.
Workman had been skipped one start in order to give his arm a break and it appears to have made a difference. He was in control and looked much more comfortable, throwing 59 of his 89 pitches for strikes.

Workman, who had his start skipped Wednesday to get some rest, is scheduled to start next Monday against the Angels, the Boston Globe reports.
Going back to before the All-Star break, Workman has lost his last five starts having allowed 30 hits, 16 walks and 24 runs in 28.1 innings. Hence, manager John Farrell's decision to skip him one time through the rotation.

Workman gave up four runs and six hits in 5.1 innings at St. Louis on Thursday. He struck out five and issued a pair of walks.
The Boston organization has always been high on Workman, who has been respectable in 10 starts this season, and with John Lester and John Lackey no longer in town, he has an opportunity to stick in the rotation for the rest of the year. He'll look to rebound from Thursday's so-so outing in his next start at Cincinnati.

Brandon Workman lost Wednesday in his return to the majors, giving up five runs -- two earned -- in five innings against the Blue Jays.
Only two runs were earned, but Workman contributed to the mess with an error and he finished the night with just two strikeouts and four walks. His chances of sticking in the majors this time currently hinge on what happens with Jon Lester and John Lackey before Thursday's trade deadline.
