Red Sox recalled RHP Brandon Workman from Triple-A Pawtucket.
Workman is starting Wednesday in place of Jon Lester, who was scratched from the outing amid rampant trade speculation. Workman owns a 4.13 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and 41/19 K/BB ratio in 52 1/3 innings this season, but he's not a very good fantasy play versus Toronto.

Red Sox optioned RHP Brandon Workman to Triple-A Pawtucket.
The Red Sox needed to clear room on the roster for the addition of Rubby De La Rosa, who will start Wednesday. Workman allowed five runs -- three earned -- over seven innings in a loss to the White Sox Tuesday. He'll be eligible to rejoin the rotation after the All-Star break.

Brandon Workman was tagged for six runs in four innings by the Cubs on Wednesday.
Rubby De La Rosa outperformed Workman prior to his demotion, but it was still pretty close up until that point. Now Workman has given up 10 runs and four homers over 11 innings in his last two starts, suggesting that the Red Sox picked the wrong youngster. If Workman isn't better next time out, he could return to Triple-A.

Brandon Workman has lost the appeal of his six-game suspension for throwing at the Rays' Evan Longoria late last month.
He'll begin serving the suspension immediately. Workman had been scheduled to start Friday, but Felix Doubront (shoulder) will likely now be brought off the disabled list to take the ball against the A's.

Brandon Workman allowed two runs, striking out seven, over six innings in a no-decision against the Indians on Sunday.
Coming off a start in which he allowed one hit over 6 2/3 innings, Workman was nearly as good on Sunday. The right-hander gave up five hits and two walks on the afternoon, and his seven strikeouts were the most in a start this year. Workman has a 2.88 ERA and 1.02 WHIP in 34 1/3 innings, and he'll square off with the Athletics in Oakland on Friday.

Brandon Workman did some work on Tuesday, allowing just one hit over 6 2/3 scoreless innings in a 1-0 win over the Orioles.
Workman had been serviceable in his first four starts, but the right-hander quieted a potent Orioles offense with conviction on Tuesday. In fact, Workman's toughest opponent was the two rain delays that limited him to 67 pitches before being yanked. The right-hander walked one and struck out four, lowering his ERA to 2.86 with a 0.99 WHIP. The strong outing has surely bought him at least one more turn in the rotation, and that will come Sunday against the Indians.

Brandon Workman's appeal of a six-game suspension will be heard on Friday.
Workman was suspended six games by MLB and fined an undisclosed amount for throwing at Rays' third baseman Evan Longoria late last month. Even if the suspension is upheld, the right-hander will only have a start pushed back a bit.

Brandon Workman was charged with three runs in five-plus innings Wednesday in a no-decision versus the Indians.
It was one run through five, but Workman was pulled after a walk and a single to start the sixth (why was he sent out in the first place then?) and Chris Capuano allowed by inherited runners to score. While Workman hasn't been bad in any of his three starts since his callup, he's gotten a combined one out beyond the fifth inning. He might well be replaced in the rotation prior to Rubby De La Rosa.

Brandon Workman has appealed his six-game suspension.
Workman was issued the six-game sentence Tuesday by Major League Baseball after intentionally throwing at Rays third baseman Evan Longoria on Saturday. Workman will make his scheduled start Wednesday versus the Indians. It can take a few weeks for appeals to be heard.

Brandon Workman is expected to appeal his suspension and start Wednesday against the Indians.
Workman was suspended six games by MLB and fined an undisclosed amount for throwing at Rays' third baseman Evan Longoria on Saturday. However, the appeal will allow him to make his next scheduled start. It's possible he'll drop the appeal and serve the suspension after the game.
