Workman (elbow, oblique) is now with Double-A Portland, Kevin Thomas of the Portland Press Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Workman has been working his way back from Tommy John elbow surgery, but suffered a setback when he hurt his oblique. He's now ready to throw in live games and was scheduled to pitch Tuesday night for the Sea Dogs, but the game was postponed due to rain. He's expected to pitch Wednesday. While the Red Sox could use some help in the bullpen, it's unlikely that Workman gets to a point where he can play a pivotal role for Boston as they make a run for the postseason.

Workman (oblique) will throw a simulated game with Short Season Single-A Lowell on Thursday, Ryan Hannable of WEEI reports.
EDGE Analysis
While returning from Tommy John surgery, Workman strained his oblique, and is now on his way back from that injury. It was unlikely that Workman would make his way to the majors before the setback, so after, it seems even less likely.

Workman, while on rehab assignment as he works his way back from Tommy John elbow surgery, suffered a strained oblique during an appearance Friday, Julian Benbow of the Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
This setback will delay Workman's return, though the organization was not banking on him coming back to a significant role at the major league level.

Workman (elbow) left his rehab appearance for short-season Lowell on Friday with "something in his side," according to Lowell manager Iggy Suarez, Matt Langone of the Lowell Sun reports.
EDGE Analysis
Workman's performance before leaving the game wasn't all that good. The right-hander failed to record an out, permitting four runs (three earned) on two hits and two walks. Suarez said the decision to remove him was precautionary, but it certainly stalls his potential return to Boston.

Workman (elbow) appeared in two innings for the Gulf Coast League Red Sox, Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe reports. The right-hander allowed one run on two hits and struck out three without a walk.
EDGE Analysis
The Red Sox have set a rehab plan for Workman, who is coming back from Tommy John elbow surgery. At some point during his 30-day rehab clock, he'll move to Short-Season Lowell and then Triple-A Pawtucket. The Red Sox have a need for additional bullpen help, but there are safer bets than banking on a pitcher coming off elbow surgery. If Workman is not deemed ready for the majors, Boston could activate him off the disabled list and option him to the minors.

Workman (elbow) will start his rehab assignment with Rookie Gulf Coast League Red Sox on Tuesday, Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
Workman continues to recover from Tommy John surgery that he underwent a year ago, and will make his first pitching appearance since 2014 in the near future with the Rookie-level team. The 27-year-old could be back with the big league club around the beginning of September, but the Red Sox will likely be careful with Workman and could hold him out the rest of the season if he isn't coming along after spending time rehabbing and recovery from his injury.

Workman (elbow) threw a bullpen session in Tampa Bay on Monday, Peter Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
Workman said he was pleased with how the session went as he continues to recover from Tommy John surgery 12 months ago. After having his rehab shut down due to fatigue, it seems he is back on track for a minor league assignment soon.

Workman (elbow) is making some mechanical adjustments and will not join Short Season Lowell at the start of its season next week, the Providence Journal reports. "There's some mechanical adjustments he's going through. So until those are solidified, that's when we're going to get him out," manager John Farrell said. "He's gone through a pretty extensive throwing program. He's back in games, multiple innings in games, but we've got some work to do before we send him out."
EDGE Analysis
Workman is coming back from Tommy John surgery and has been pitching in Fort Myers. At the moment, the Red Sox are using him as a starter, giving him multiple innings in order to build up arm strength, but he's expected to pitch out of the bullpen when he is ready to join Boston.

Workman (elbow) has pitched three times in extended spring training, the Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
Workman has been out-of-sight, out-of-mind while recovering from Tommy John surgery. He's pitching on a five-day schedule with the hope that his velocity and endurance will increase over time. "How he throws and how the arm strength returns will indicate how we factor him in and what he's going to be capable of," manager John Farrell said. The right-handerf, who has experience as both a starter and reliever, is expected to begin a rehab assignment for Short-Season Lowell when their season opens June 17.

Workman (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Wednesday, Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Red Sox needed a spot on the 40-man roster for Josh Rutledge, so Workman was transferred to the 60-day DL in order to make room for him. This is largely a procedural move, was Workman is not expected to return until closer to the end of the season.
