MLB has suspended Brandon Workman for six games and fined him an undisclosed amount for throwing at Evan Longoria on Saturday.
It's not clear if Workman will appeal the suspension or serve it immediately. He's currently scheduled to start Wednesday against the Indians. For what it's worth, David Price did not receive any punishment for his actions on Saturday.

Brandon Workman was ejected in the top of the sixth inning in Friday's game after throwing behind Rays third baseman Evan Longoria.
Third base coach Brian Butterfield, the acting manager with John Farrell and Torey Lovullo ejected earlier in the game, was also ejected. Warnings were issued to both sides because of previous incidents in the game, so Workman was automatically ejected for throwing at Longoria. He gave the Red Sox what they needed for the most part, giving up two runs on four hits and three walks over 5 2/3 innings. He struck out four batters.

Brandon Workman allowed three runs on five hits over five innings in a no-decision against the Rays on Sunday.
Starting for the injured Felix Doubront, Workman kept the Red Sox in the ballgame but exited in line for the loss. The right-hander also walked three while striking out three in the outing. Doubront's return isn't on the horizon, so Workman will presumably get another start with the club. That start will likely come against the same Rays club on Friday.

Red Sox recalled RHP Brandon Workman from Triple-A Pawtucket.
Workman will get the start on Sunday in Tampa Bay in place of the injured Felix Doubront (shoulder). With Doubront out indefinitely, Workman will get a shot to stay in the rotation for a while if he pitches well. He's posted a 5.12 ERA and 34/10 K/BB ratio over seven Triple-A starts this season.

Red Sox manager John Farrell confirmed Saturday that Brandon Workman will start in place of the injured Felix Doubront on Sunday.
The 25-year-old hasn't exactly been tearing it up at Triple-A Pawtucket, posting a 5.12 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 34/10 K/BB ratio over 38 2/3 innings, but he's the best option that the Red Sox have on short notice. He should probably avoided in mixed leagues.

Brandon Workman has been scratched from his scheduled start for Triple-A Pawtucket Friday.
It's obviously a good indication that he will start on Sunday in Tampa Bay in place of the injured Felix Doubront (shoulder). Workman has put up a 5.12 ERA over seven Triple-A outings, but it's come along with a nice 34/10 K/BB ratio. He could get at least a couple starts while Doubront is out and is worth a look in AL-only formats.

The Red Sox' corresponding move will be to activate Craig Breslow prior to Wednesday's game. Workman will be added to Pawtucket's rotation.

Brandon Workman has secured a spot in the Red Sox Opening Day bullpen.
The 25-year-old hurler posted a 5.17 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 16/2 K/BB ratio over 15 2/3 innings of Grapefruit League play. He'll function in a middle relief role for the Red Sox for two or three weeks, before potentially transitioning back to starting.

Brandon Workman was tagged for five runs in 2 1/3 innings by the Pirates on Monday.
Workman struck out four and walked none, but he gave up five hits, two of them homers with the wind blowing out. That the Red Sox are looking at Workman as a starter this spring suggests that he could open the season in the minors. While he showed late last year that he can be a valuable piece in the pen, the Red Sox have quality depth there without him.

Red Sox manager John Farrell suggested that Brandon Workman would start next season in the bullpen.
Workman went 6-3 with a 4.97 ERA and 1.42 WHIP over 17 relief appearances and three starts in 2013. Boston has plenty of starting pitching depth, so this former second-round pick will have to bide his time in the 'pen in 2014 barring unforeseen circumstances.
