Philadelphia is hoping to be a more consistent team in 2014-15. "I just think we tend to get away from our game too often," Steve Mason said. "We can play 20 minutes, 40 minutes of unbelievable hockey and completely control our game, but we tend to get away from that a period at a time. Come playoffs, if you're not going to gather a full 60 minutes, that's what's going to cost you." Mason added that the Flyers didn't put forth their full effort for an entire 60 minutes in any of their playoff games against the New York Rangers. That being said, the Flyers are upbeat upbeat about their chances for the 2014-15 campaign.

With his stellar play in the playoffs, Steve Mason dispelled any doubts that he will be the Flyer starter next season. The Flyers have a number of issues to address this off-season but starting goaltending isn't one of them as Mason was Philly's best player in the playoffs despite playing in only four of the seven games. He is 26 years old and entering his prime and seems to have rebounded from a number of uneven seasons after winning the Calder Trophy as the NHL's top rookie six years ago. Mason should be a solid fantasy pick in 2014-15.

Steve Mason's upper-body injury was a concussion. Mason rejoined the Flyers on April 22. He went on to do a superb job in the playoffs, posting a 1.97 GAA and .939 save percentage in five games. The Flyers were eliminated by the Rangers on Wednesday, but Mason did everything he could to keep Philadelphia alive.

Steve Mason did what he could to hold off the Rangers, but was saddled with a 2-1 loss in Game 7 of their opening round playoff series. Mason stopped 31 of 33 shots in the defeat and was the primary reason the Flyers didn't trail by a larger margin heading into the third period. Though he was injured to begin the series, Mason posted a 1.97 GAA and .939 save percentage in his four starts, holding up his end of the bargain.

Steve Mason stymied the Rangers Tuesday night as the Flyers faced elimination, denying 34 of 36 shots to backstop Philadelphia to a 5-2 Game 6 victory on Tuesday night. Mason's superb comeback season with the Flyers will last at least another night, as the Flyers are in tough having to win Game 7 on the road. Mason's return from injury in Game 4 has shifted the series in the Flyers' favor, as he's gone 2-1 with a .939 save percentage and 1.95 goals against average since taking over for the shaky Ray Emery.

Steve Mason and the Philadelphia Flyers lost to the New York Rangers 4-2 in Game 5 on Sunday, falling behind 3-2 in the first-round series. Two days after gaining his first career postseason game, Mason didn't have the best time on Sunday (although a few close calls may have made it worse). He allowed three goals on just 21 shots as the Rangers pushed Philly to the brink of elimination.

Steve Mason, starting in goal for Philadelphia for the first time since suffering an upper-body injury April 12, "won the game for us," Flyers forward Matt Read said after Philly's 2-1 playoff win over the Rangers Friday night. The series is now tied 2-2, and the Flyers are confident they can come back to win the series with Mason back. He stopped 37 shots Friday. ""He stood on his head all night and made some big saves for us. He put the team on his shoulders.'' Mason said: "It was a lot of fun to get back out there in this kind of atmosphere. . .I've waited a long time for this. But one win doesn't do very much in the long run.'' Mason's playoff record was 0-4 before Friday night.

Steve Mason was instrumental in Philadelphia's 2-1 win over New York in Game 4, stopping 37 shots in his return to the lineup on Friday night. The Rangers piled on the pressure all game long, at times dominating the hometown Flyers, but Mason played a solid game and gave his team the chance to win. The Flyers were outshot 38-25, gave away the puck 13 times and were shorthanded four times, but Mason provided strong netminding in sending the series back to Madison Square Garden knotted up at two. Steve Mason, who will make his first start of the 2014 playoff run, felt good during Thursday's practice. "Toward the end of [Thursday's] practice I felt really sharp, especially on the power play stuff there," Mason said. "I was moving well, seeing the pucks through screens. If that's a gauge for myself, I feel pretty good." Mason returned from an upper-body injury for Game 3 on Tuesday. He started the game as the backup goaltender, but ended up replacing Ray Emery once he got yanked.
