Markstrom was the clear man out, with promising youngster Eddie lack primed to take over Canucks' starting duties in the future. Markstrom, the 24-year-old Swedish prospect, went 1-2-0 in four appearances with the Canucks in 2013-14, recording a .868 save percentage and 3.00 GAA. It's likely a team takes a gamble and picks him up off waivers.

Markstrom carries a $1.2 million cap hit. He had a .918 save percentage in 29 games in the AHL last year, and a .873 save percentage in 16 games in the NHL.

The Canucks conclude a disappointing regular season with a game Sunday night against Calgary and Eddie Lack could be between the pipes for that contest.

Look for Jacob Markstrom to get the start in goal for Vancouver on Thursday. It will be Markstrom's first start in goal for Vancouver since he was dealt at the trade deadline on March 4 as the Canucks have been using Eddie Lack. But the Canucks were eliminated from playoff contention Monday and there is no reason to keep Markstrom on the bench. Adjust your lineup accordingly.
