Markstrom (lower body) will travel to Buffalo on Thursday and then head to AHL Utica for a conditioning assignment, according to Jon Abbot of TSN 1040.
EDGE Analysis
Markstrom will look to fully recover from his lower body injury and perhaps get a little playing time in Utica before going back up to the Canucks to serve as Ryan Miller's backup. The 35-year-old Miller is currently leading all goaltenders in minutes played, so the sooner Markstrom can return to ease some of the veteran Miller's workload the better for Vancouver. Richard Bachman is serving as the backup goalie in the interim period.

Markstrom (lower body) returned to the ice Tuesday, Jon Abbott of TSN 1040 reports.
EDGE Analysis
Markstrom was initially given a three week recovery timetable after suffering a lower-body injury on Oct. 7, but is reportedly progressing more quickly than expected, a fact made evident by his return to the ice Tuesday. On Tuesday Markstrom took shots from members of Vancouver's coaching staff, but remained stationary during the workout. When healthy, Markstrom is expected to slot into the Canucks' lineup as Ryan Miller's backup.

Markstrom is on the IR, the NHL's media site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Markstrom has been dealing with a hamstring issue, and while he was initially scheduled to miss at least three weeks from the start of the season, he appears to be progressing ahead of schedule. When healthy, he'll serve as Ryan Miller's backup in net.

Markstrom is progressing more quickly than expected.
EDGE Analysis
Markstrom was expected to miss approximately three weeks because of the issue, and while the team hasn't provided an updated timetable, it appears he could return ahead of that schedule. When healthy, he's expected to serve as the Canucks' backup behind Ryan Miller.

Markstrom (lower back) will now receive re-evaluation within the week before the team makes any further decisions, John Shannon of Sportsnet reports.
EDGE Analysis
Marstrom was expected to be out for three weeks, but the revised timetable leaves that a bit more cloudy. Another update should come following his re-evaluation, at which point a new timetable will likely be set.

Markstrom (lower body) is expected to be out for at least three weeks, Sportsnet's John Shannon reports.
EDGE Analysis
Given that timetable, Markstrom's next chance to join the Canucks' lineup would come on Oct. 30 against the Canucks. That's a best case scenario, however, and it's much more likely that the 25-year-old netminder will start in a few contests with AHL Utica before returning to Vancouver as Ryan Miller's backup. Richard Bachman will serve as Miller's backup in Markstrom's absence.

Markstrom has sustained an injury to his lower body that will require further evaluation Wednesday, according to Canucks GM Jim Benning.
EDGE Analysis
In a corresponding move, the Canucks have recalled goalie Richard Bachman from AHL Utica in order to serve as the backup goalie to Ryan Miller in Wednesday's season opener against the Flames. As for Markstrom, the team should release more information about his status following the evaluation period, but he can be considered day-to-day until more concrete details are revealed.

Markstrom stopped 21 of 23 shots in Thursday's preseason win over the Oilers.
EDGE Analysis
Another strong outing from Markstrom, who is sporting an impressive .962 save percentage in the 2015 NHL preseason. If the 25-year-old can continues his strong play into the regular season, it's very possible he could steal crease time from the veteran Ryan Miller. Markstrom is currently seen as the Canucks' backup right now, but he could take on a larger role as the season wears on. He's definitely one to keep an eye on.

Markstrom stopped all 32 shots he faced in Monday's 1-0 preseason win over Arizona.
EDGE Analysis
An outstanding showing from Markstrom, who has been excellent in the 2015 preseason thus far. The 25-year-old has appeared in three games, stopping 55 of 56 shots -- good for a .982 save percentage. The Swedish netminder enters the season as the backup to Ryan Miller, but he's coming off a superb season with AHL Utica and could challenge the veteran for crease time in 2015-16. Miller has struggled in the preseason so far, posting a .829 save percentage, and while he may still be considered a reliable workhorse, the 35-year-old is no longer one of the top goaltenders in the NHL. If the former Sabre struggles early on, Markstrom could see some starts and potentially grow into a larger role with Vancouver. Markstrom may be entering the season as the backup, but he could end up taking over the Canucks' crease and turning into a fantasy steal.

Markstrom re-signed Monday with the Canucks on a two-year, $1.55 million contract.
As was intimated by the trade of Eddie Lack to the Hurricanes over the weekend, Markstrom will be locked in as the Canucks' backup goalie behind Ryan Miller to start the season. The 25-year-old faltered in his three appearances with the Canucks last season, posting a 3.08 GAA and .879 save percentage, but he was among the top goalies in the minor-league ranks. He submitted a 22-7-2 record, 1.88 GAA, and .934 save percentage over 32 games for AHL Utica.
