However, he'll draw into a highly unfavorable matchup Saturday against Boston, as the Bruins have been one of the NHL's best offensive squads this season, averaging an impressive 3.25 goals scored per game, third best in the league.

The netminder will face a Devils club scoring 2.37 goals per game this season to rank in the bottom ten.

Markstrom allowed four goals on 36 shots in Monday's loss to the Canadiens.

After Cam Atkinson struck on Markstrom shorthanded eight minutes into the third period, things weren't looking great despite what'd been a stand-up performance by the young netminder, but the Canucks rallied back late to beat their old coach and reward Markstrom's valiant efforts with a win. Coach Willie Desjardins showed no hesitation slotting Markstrom in upon his return from an AHL conditioning stint, and while he's not a threat to Miller right now, it's well worth noting that Vancouver's veteran starter hasn't put up the statistics of an elite goalie for some time now.

As a second-round draft pick (2013), Markstrom has upside for the Canucks in the long term. The 25-year-old has made his way into 50 career games between the Panthers and Canucks, posting a 3.19 GAA and .896 save percentage. He'll simply give No. 1 goalie Ryan Miller a breather Tuesday.
