Galchenyuk skated on the second line as a winger during Wednesday's practice, Pat Hickey of the Montreal Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
Twelve hours after coach Claude Julien told reporters that Galchenyuk had not played well in Tuesday's loss to Detroit, the one-time center found himself on a wing with center Andrew Shaw and winger Artturi Lehkonen. Galchenyuk had won 15 of 48 faceoffs over the last three games, and the top line produced just two goals over the last nine. Julien saw the failing chemistry between the top trio, and his natural coaching instinct was to break them up and hopefully get Galchenyuk on track in a less demanding position. We suspect he'll remain on the top power-play unit, so there's still some value in deploying Galchenyuk in fantasy lineups.

Galchenyuk delivered two assists in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Rangers.
EDGE Analysis
The points stretch his scoring streak to five games and seven points (three goals, four assists). Galchenyuk is starting to emerge as the potent offensive threat that he appeared to be last season. The Habs have still not determined if they see him as a wing or a centerman. But until then, Galchenyuk's production is currently good enough to be deployed in either role.

Galchenyuk scored the game-winning goal on the power play in Tuesday's 1-0 overtime win over the Blue Jackets. It was the second game in as many nights that he ended with a power-play goal in overtime.
EDGE Analysis
Until the game-winner, the 23-year-old center was a non-entity, having just one shot on net and lost nine of 10 faceoffs. But that's the brilliance of Galchenyuk who can create offense in a moment, particularly on the power play. He's locked on the third line for now, but he'll continue to skate on Montreal's top power-play unit. Three of the four points he's posted in the last three games have come the man-advantage unit.

Galchenyuk scored a goal and added an assist in Saturday's 3-2 overtime win.
EDGE Analysis
He has been struggling -- this was his first multi-point game in more than a month. And Galchenyuk has just nine points (four goals, five assists) in 16 games since his return from injured reserve on Jan. 14. We'd like to see the Habs finally determine if he's a center or a winger in their scheme. That might help Galchenyuk settle into a better groove.

Galchenyuk started Saturday's game against Winnipeg centering the first line, but was later dropped to the third line in Montreal's 3-1 loss.
EDGE Analysis
Montreal coach Claude Julien gave Galchenyuk a vote of confidence, having him start on the top line with Max Pacioretty and Alexander Radulov. The moved paid early dividends when the 23-year-old center assisted on Montreal's lone goal in the first period, but then he disappeared. Julien had just one day to lead a practice with his new team, which had its bye week leading up to Saturday's game. Presumably, he'll get a better read on players and implement any tweaks in the two-plus days leading into Tuesday's game against the Rangers in New York.

Galchenyuk practiced on the top line Friday, the first practice with new coach Claude Julien, Stu Cowan of Hockey Inside Out reports. Phillip Danault, the top line's previous center, has been moved down to the third line.
EDGE Analysis
This move is not insignificant, as Montreal's top line has been the only unit producing offense on a consistent basis. Prior to his December knee injury, Galchenyuk had scored 23 points in 25 games. Since returning, the 23-year-old center's scoring pace has been down, having scored just two points in the last six games. Part of that may be getting his legs back following a rehab period, but some of that falls to Montreal's depth.

Galchenyuk was moved to Montreal's top line during the third period after Phillip Danault sustained an upper-body injury and left Saturday's 3-2 loss to Washington.
EDGE Analysis
Until that point in the game, Glachenyuk was a non-factor, but he was part of the top unit's frantic, last-second offensive push to tie the game, forcing Washington goalie Braden Holtby into his best save of the game. If Danault is unavailable for Sunday afternoon's matchup against Edmonton, we expect to see Galchenyuk reunited with Max Pacioretty and Alexander Radulov on the lone Montreal line that presents a threat to an opponent.

Galchenyuk finished the Canadiens' previous game on the top line and could be there again Saturday against Washington if the offense struggles like it did Thursday against Philadelphia, Pat Hickey of the Montreal Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
Phillip Danault will start the game on the top line with Max Pacioretty and Alexander Radulov, but could be replaced if the team comes out as flat as it did against the Flyers. When Galchenyuk initially came back from his knee injury, coach Michel Therrien rode him hard, giving him top-line and power-play minutes, but that usage aggravated the knee. After getting a three-game break, Galchenyuk returned to action Thursday and started on the third line before getting an in-game promotion. Therrien would prefer to manage Galchenyuk's minutes this early in his return, but the coach is ready to scrap that plan should Montreal struggle Saturday afternoon against Washington.

Galchenyuk picked up an assist over 16:01 of ice time in his return from a knee injury Thursday against Philadelphia.
EDGE Analysis
He helped out on the Habs' only goal in a losing effort, marking a successful return for Galchenyuk after this ailment cost him 21 of the last 26 games. When healthy, Galchenyuk has been an elite point producer who's easily outpacing his rate from previous seasons as he continues growing into the potential that made him the No. 3 overall pick in 2012.

Galchenyuk (knee) will return to the lineup Thursday, centering a line with David Desharnais and Andrew Shaw, Stu Cowan of Hockey Inside/Out reports.
EDGE Analysis
The improved play of Phillip Danault, who has meshed well with Max Pacioretty and Alexander Radulov on the Habs' top line, allows coach Michel Therrien to bring Galchenyuk back at a measured pace. An argument can be made for keeping the 22-year-old center on the second or third line. As long as the top trio remains productive, Galchenyuk can give Montreal scoring depth through the top-9 forwards.
