Galchenyuk had two shots on net and scored a power play goal over 12:16 of ice time in Saturday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Maple Leafs.
EDGE Analysis
Galchenyuk was demoted to the fourth line for the game, but remained on Montreal's second power play unit and was able to finish off a turnover. The goal was his first point of the season and the Canadiens' first power play goal in 15 tries. How long the talented offensive player remains buried on the fourth line only head coach Claude Julien knows, but Galchenyuk has the skills to be a top-six forward.

Galchenyuk (illness) is projected to play in Saturday's home game versus the Maple Leafs, NHL.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Chucky isn't listed among the scratches for this contest, but the 23-year-old winger could find himself starting off on the fourth line with Torrey Mitchell and Ales Hemsky. While that may seem like an odd placement for a guy who's notched 100 points over the past two seasons, consider that Montreal needs to shake things up as it currently sits in last place for team scoring; we're talking five goals in four games for Claude Julien's hockey team.

Galchenyuk missed practice Friday due to symptoms of the flu.
EDGE Analysis
Galchenyuk's symptoms are apparently severe enough that he is seeing a doctor according to John Lu of TSN.ca. Coach Claude Julien didn't have an update regarding the winger's availability for Saturday's clash with Toronto, but if he is absent, look for Jacob De La Rose to slot back into the lineup.

Galchenyuk was dropped from the second line to the fourth line at Wednesday's practice, Stu Cowan of Hockey Inside Out report.
EDGE Analysis
Head coach Claude Julien is shaking up the lines after a 1-3 start during which the Canadiens have scored four goals. Galchenyuk was on a line with Torrey Mitchell and Ales Hemsky during practice and may need to earn his way off that unit. He's yet score a point this season while averaging 16:21 of ice time with a minus-1. The demotion means he's skating with less skilled forwards, but could still hold value if he remains on the first power-play unit,

Galchenyuk scored his first goal and had his first assist of the preseason in Saturday's 9-2 in over Ottawa.
EDGE Analysis
This hasn't been a good preseason for Galchenyuk, who was pointless over the first six exhibitions after signing a three-year deal in the offseason. And Saturday didn't start well when he took a tripping penalty three seconds into the game, but in a span of 26 seconds late in the first period, he made a couple of plays to remind us of his offensive potential. First, from his new position on the left wing, Galchenyuk beat Ottawa's Craig Anderson high to the short side, then made a beautiful pass to Andrew Shaw for Montreal's third goal of the first period. Skating on the left wing with Shaw on the right and Phillip Danault in between, Galchenyuk may have found his spot when the regular season drops Thursday in Buffalo.

Galchenyuk is no longer seen as a centerman by the Canadiens organization and will skate on the wing for the foreseeable future, John Lu of TSN reports.
EDGE Analysis
A 30-goal scorer in 2015-16, Galchenyuk's production dropped to 17 goals last season and he was lambasted for his work at center ice. The former third-overall pick has boatloads of offensive ability, but he only won 42.7% of draws last season and too often neglects the defensive responsibilities that come along with playing center. Some players struggle with adjusting to the wing after playing center, while others thrive offensively with reduced defensive duties. Where Galchenyuk lands on this spectrum remains to be determined, but his talent alone may justify reaching for him in upcoming fantasy drafts.

Galchenyuk signed a three-year, $14.7 million contract extension with the Canadiens, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
While the Habs reportedly won't be able to retain veteran defenseman Andrei Markov and they've already lost top-six talent Alexander Radulov to the Stars, re-signing Galchenyuk at least preserves one of the team's premier power-play weapons. Last season, Chucky notched 44 points (17 goals, 27 assists) in 61 games, despite averaging a mere 15:56 of ice time. The 23-year-old told reporters last month that he wanted to stay in Montreal, so it's a wish come true for the talented playmaker.

Galchenyuk, who's a pending restricted free agent, expressed his desire to remain with the Canadiens. "I love this team, I love this city, I love the fans - I love everything about Montreal," he said. "It's an exciting place to play."
EDGE Analysis
The Wisconsin-born center was limited to 61 games this season, as he dealt with two different injuries to his right knee. His scoring dipped by 13 goals compared to a full campaign in 2015-16, but Galchenyuk managed a career-high 27 assists. Few NHLers can match the youngster's efficiency; he's accumulated 204 points (89 goals, 115 helpers) despite averaging less than 16:30 over his first five years in the league. Assuming Galchenyuk re-ups with the Habs, he'll be a mainstay in the top six as well as on the man advantage.

Galchenyuk notched a first-period assist and registered three shots on net during Monday's win over Florida.
EDGE Analysis
Averaging just 13:37 of ice time through his past five games, Galchenyuk's role has been a serious impediment to his fantasy upside. He's still posted an impressive 16 goals and 43 points through 58 games, but an uptick in minutes would almost certainly be accompanied by better offensive numbers. Galchenyuk's keeper/dynasty owners will want to remain patient with the talented youngster, and hope he receives an extended role in 2017-18.

Galchenyuk skated 17:02 and scored the Habs' lone goal in Thursday's 4-1 home loss to Carolina.
EDGE Analysis
For all that he was technically on the third line with Artturi Lehkonen and Andrew Shaw, Galchenyuk saw the third-most ice time among Montreal forwards -- just 17 seconds fewer than minutes leader Max Pacioretty. Galchenyuk meshed well with his new mates, as the three of them combined on his goal and generally looked good throughout the game. Now that it's been demonstrated that he's not the one bringing the Habs' top line down, Galchenyuk may return to that assignment, but he's clearly going to get his minutes either way.
