Galchenyuk practiced on the top line Friday, the first practice with new coach Claude Julien, Stu Cowan of Hockey Inside Out reports. Phillip Danault, the top line's previous center, has been moved down to the third line.
EDGE Analysis
This move is not insignificant, as Montreal's top line has been the only unit producing offense on a consistent basis. Prior to his December knee injury, Galchenyuk had scored 23 points in 25 games. Since returning, the 23-year-old center's scoring pace has been down, having scored just two points in the last six games. Part of that may be getting his legs back following a rehab period, but some of that falls to Montreal's depth.
