Ex-Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum took full responsibility and confirmed that the Tim Tebow trade was his idea. "It's just a trade that didn't work out," Tannenbaum said. "Ultimately that was my decision to trade for Tim. We thought there was a role for him. We thought it would give us a chance to make our offense more dynamic." Tannenbaum confirms that owner Woody Johnson was initially reluctant, but the trio, along with head coach Rex Ryan, pursued it and made the deal happen. Hopefully this puts the Tebow drama to bed. He's fully expected to be released by the Jets this offseason.

Jets owner Woody Johnson told potential GM candidates that Tim Tebow was "forced" on him. Former Broncos GM Ted Sundquist, who interviewed for the Jets opening, told ESPN New York that Johnson said he "jumped on board" with the idea after deciding to trust former GM Mike Tannenbaum and the personnel department. Of course Johnson would put all of the blame on the guy that was kicked to the curb, even after Johnson was the first to take credit for Tebow's acquisition. All in all, Tebow seems certain to be joining Tannenbaum on the streets in the near future.

New Bears coach Marc Trestman recruited Tim Tebow to North Carolina State in 2006 and tutored Tebow in preparation for the 2010 Senior Bowl. "I believe in the right environment Tim Tebow will figure this out," Trestman said in 2010. "He doesn't have explosive arm strength, but he has more than adequate arm strength to throw the ball in the NFL and make all the throws. ... If you're a coach and you love coaching quarterbacks, you'd love the opportunity to develop Tim Tebow." The Jets are expected to release Tebow after the Super Bowl, so Trestman should have an opportunity to sign him in March.

One NFL source tells the New York Daily News he believes the circus surrounding Tim Tebow with the Jets in 2012 could lead to the end of the quarterback's NFL career. Citing the "distraction" that Tebow brings, the source said, "I think it could be over. He can go on with his life successfully without football. ... Now you've got two places he's been and both are adamant that he can't play quarterback. Adamant. Both paid a heckuva price to kick the tires." The source did allow that the "isolated" Patriots are the only team that makes sense because Josh McDaniels drafted Tebow and Bill Belichick is always willing to try new tricks. The question is whether Tebow would be willing to be a Wildcat gimmick. "I think he's done being made fun of and laughed at," said the source. "It is very painful for him."

A "very, very disappointed" retiring special teams coordinator Mike Westhoff describes the Jets' handling of Tim Tebow as an "absolute mess" and a "distraction." "To be honest, I don't think anybody has really answered that question: Why did we do it?" Westhoff said. "I honestly don't know. I know we didn't practice it. We didn't practice it in training camp. We were going to unveil it. Well, I'm still waiting for the unveiling." Westhoff believes Tebow is "very, very average, at best" as a drop-back quarterback, but can succeed in a hybrid role.

A source tells USA Today the Jets had "visions of lining up (Tim) Tebow at running back in traditional sets" when they first acquired him from the Broncos. Coach Rex Ryan mentioned using Tebow as a runner when the Jets were running low on healthy backs in October, but they apparently originally planned for it to be an "integral part of their game plans." It's unclear why the scheme never came to pass, but it's highly doubtful it would have added a meaningful dimension to former OC Tony Sparano's spitball offense. Ryan and owner Woody Johnson both refused comment on Tebow's Jets future at Tuesday's season-ending presser, but the wide assumption remains that he'll be moving on from New York.

Tim Tebow denies asking out of the Jets' Wildcat package last week, and says his Friday conversation with coach Rex Ryan was simply to reiterate "he would do anything to help." As The Tebow Turns. Requesting out of the Wildcat is something Tebow would never admit to publicly, but there's strong evidence he did. As it is, it's an irrelevant storyline in a season full of them in New York. It's unclear if Tebow or WR Jeremy Kerley will pilot OC Tony Sparano's crude gimmick package against the Bills in Sunday's finale.

Tim Tebow and Mark Sanchez are both active for Week 16 against the Chargers. CBS' report that Tebow would not suit up was inaccurate. It means the Jets will be rolling with three quarterbacks against the Bolts, though they've declined to officially announce who will back-up "starter" Greg McElroy. The smart money is on Sanchez, but the smart money doesn't always pay out with Gang Green. It would be far from surprising if all three players ended up seeing snaps. McElroy can't be counted on in two-QB leagues. Inactive for the Jets are TE Dustin Keller, WR Mardy Gilyard CB Aaron Berry, CB Donnie Fletcher, LB Ricky Sapp, OG Caleb Schlauderaff and DL Damon Harrison.
