The Texans are expected to open long-term extension talks with Matt Schaub.
Schaub is entering a contract year, and the Texans believe he's fully healthy coming off Lisfranc surgery. Proposals between the two sides have yet to be initiated, but Len Pasquarelli of The Sports Xchange suggests a deal could be reached "prior to the start of the season." Schaub is set to make $7.15 million in 2012, and turns 31 later this month.

Texans head athletic trainer Geoff Kaplan confirmed Friday that Matt Schaub (Lisfranc surgery) will be a full-go when the team begins training camp in late July.
"I think we all expect Matt to be out there the first day of training camp without any issues," said Kaplan. Schaub was held out of OTAs and minicamp as a precaution, but he's already leading players-only throwing sessions at the University of Houston, and Andre Johnson (knee scope) is participating. The Texans will be one of the NFL's healthier teams when training camps commence.

A study by ESPN's Ron Jaworski finds that Matt Schaub has been among the best quarterbacks in the NFL on first downs over the last four years.
Not only has Schaub been consistently above 9.0 YPA on first-and-ten, he has placed in the top-five in the NFL in producing another first down in each of the past four seasons. Schaub's production is buoyed by coach Gary Kubiak's zone-blocking scheme which goes hand-in-glove with the controlled passing game featuring a heavy does of play-action. While Jaws continue to question Schaub's durability, he notes that the Texans' starter has been one of the most consistent passers in the NFL over the past half-decade.

Matt Schaub (Lisfranc surgery) is leading players-only throwing sessions at the University of Houston this week.
Making up for time lost while sitting out OTAs, Schaub is leading 6-12 players -- including Andre Johnson (knee scope) -- in drills. Schaub reiterated that his surgically repaired foot is back to 100 percent. Both players are fully expected to be ready for the start of training camp.

Matt Schaub "(doesn't) know" if his agent and the Texans have exchanged contract proposals.
Schaub's entering a contract year, but it doesn't appear the sides have had meaningful extension talks. Schaub has missed at least five games three of his five years in Houston, and turns 31 later this month. Coming off Lisfranc surgery, he's not in a position of negotiating strength. If a deal is reached this summer, it would likely be near the end of camp.

Though Matt Schaub (Lisfranc surgery) is sitting out OTAs, he declared himself 100 percent healthy and "ready to go" six weeks ahead of training camp.
"I'm ready to go," said Schaub, who missed all ten Texans OTAs and will also sit out the club's June minicamp. Coach Gary Kubiak explained that Schaub could have been practicing, but the Texans held him out as a precautionary measure. Schaub's fantasy appeal will be limited in the NFL's most run-heavy offense, but the injury won't be a big concern. He'll be a mid-range to low-end QB2.

Matt Schaub (Lisfranc surgery) is "moving around really well" at OTAs, according to the Houston Chronicle.
Coach Gary Kubiak, the organization and the media have all expressed optimism over Schaub's status. He's not partaking in team drills, but is getting his work in on another field. We're expecting Schaub to be a full go for training camp.

Texans coach Gary Kubiak confirmed Wednesday that there's no quarterback controversy in Houston, and Matt Schaub (Lisfranc surgery) is locked in as the starter.
T.J. Yates managed games fairly effectively down the stretch of his rookie season, but Schaub will have strong job security entering his contract year. "There's nobody here questioning it, I can tell you that," Kubiak said. "He's our quarterback, he's our leader, he's played extremely well. ... And wee're expecting big things from him, so there's no questions being asked here."

Coach Gary Kubiak insists Matt Schaub (Lisfranc surgery) could be partaking in OTAs if the Texans allowed him.
The Texans are exercising the utmost caution with Schaub, and getting promising second-year QB T.J. Yates extra reps. "Matt is fine," Kubiak said. "Matt, to be honest with you, could probably do individuals, could do 7-on-7, but we're just being smart. When you haven't passed a physical, you're not going to step on the field." Schaub is expected to be fully cleared for training camp.

The Texans will hold Matt Schaub (Lisfranc fracture) out of team drills at OTAs.
T.J. Yates, John Beck, and rookie Case Keenum will pick up the slack. The Texans are smartly taking a cautious approach with Schaub, who still projects to be ready for training camp. He'll be a low-upside QB2 in 2012 fantasy drafts.
