Matt Schaub completed 17-of-30 passes for 290 yards, four touchdowns and an interception in Houston's 31-25 Week 3 win over the Broncos. One week after dinking and dunking to the tune of just 195 yards against the lowly Jaguars, Schaub routinely challenged downfield, completing six throws of 18 yards or longer. Two of Schaub's four touchdowns came from at least 50 yards out. Schaub was having so much success deep the Broncos benched veteran corner Tracy Porter in the first half. Schaub also took a number of thundering hits, leaving the game for one play in the third quarter following a helmet-to-helmet smash from Joe Mays. He went for elbow X-rays after the game, but appeared no worse for the wear down the stretch. The "real" Schaub lies somewhere in between his Week 2 and 3 performances, but it's clear he'll remain a perfectly fine fill-in option in two-QB leagues.

Matt Schaub completed 26-of-35 passes for 195 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in the Texans' Week 2 win over the Jaguars. This is exactly why we pegged Schaub as a "bust" before the season started. He's now a game manager behind the Texans' dominant running game. When asked to pass, Schaub dumped off passes to his backs or threw screens. There's just no reason to risk downfield throws when the Texans can win with defense and Arian Foster/Ben Tate. Schaub remains a low-upside QB2 heading into next week's game in Denver.

Matt Schaub completed 20-of-31 passes for 266 yards and a touchdown as the Texans defeated the Dolphins, 30-10 in Week 1. Schaub was efficient throwing to his top two pass catchers, hitting Andre Johnson and Owen Daniels for a combined 12 completions, over 200 yards, and the score. Schaub and the Texans head to Jacksonville for Week 2 to take on an underrated pass defense. We wouldn't even consider Schaub on the QB1 radar, despite his solid Week 1 game and potent performances in preseason action.

Matt Schaub says he feels "as good physically as I ever have." It's notable because Schaub is coming off a Lisfranc fracture. He certainly looked healthy in the preseason, going 29-of-38 (76.3 percent) for 374 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Still, the Texans' dominant run-heavy scheme caps Schaub's fantasy upside.

CBS' Jason La Canfora reports it's "very unlikely" the Texans re-sign free-agent-to-be Matt Schaub before the offseason. The 31-year-old Schaub is making $7.15 million in his walk year. Schaub has had an outstanding preseason, but it's still in the Texans' best interest to make him prove his health and effectiveness during the regular season after a Lisfranc fracture limited him to 10 games in 2011. Schaub will be a strong candidate for the franchise tag.

Matt Schaub completed 15-of-18 passes for 194 yards and a touchdown in the Texans' third preseason game Saturday night. He played two quarters. Schaub was surgical against a banged-up New Orleans defense after ripping up the 49ers a week ago. Clearly over his 2011 Lisfranc foot injury, Schaub is 29-of-38 (76.3 percent) for 374 yards (9.84 YPA), two touchdowns, and one interception through three preseason appearances. Schaub can definitely spin the rock, but the Texans' run-heavy offense greatly limits his fantasy appeal. He's a low-upside QB2 for 2012 drafts.

Matt Schaub insisted Tuesday that his contract situation will not be a distraction this year. The Texans are expected to wait until after the season to see if Schaub can stay injury-free before addressing his contract. "When we look up at the end of the year, I think we'll like what we see, and things will handle themselves as we go," said Schaub. "Every year is a pivotal year."

Matt Schaub (Lisfranc surgery) has reportedly been given doctor's clearance for the start of training camp. Although Schaub was held out of offseason practices as a precaution, he's been conducting passing drills with teammates over the past week. Specialist Dr. Robert Anderson's green light was a mere formality, as both Schaub and the Texans have insisted for weeks that his foot is 100 percent healthy. Rotoworld ranks Schaub 19th among fantasy QBs in Houston's run-heavy offense.

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle expects the Texans to wait on a long-term contract extension for Matt Schaub (Lisfranc surgery) until he proves he can stay healthy. The Texans need to see Schaub bounce back from a Lisfranc fracture at age 31, and he's had durability issues throughout his NFL career. "They're not gonna give him an extension 'til he proves he can stay healthy," McClain said. "That he can indeed bounce back from the Lisfranc surgery." In a worst case scenario, the Texans could slap Schaub with the franchise tag next year.

Matt Schaub reiterated that he wants to sign a long-term deal with the Texans. Schaub is entering the final year of his contract. It's unclear if the Texans will try to get something done before Week 1 or if they'll make him sustain a full season of health. "That stuff, if we take care of our business, get our job done, things will take care of themselves," Schaub said. "But I love the city of Houston and want to be here for many years to come."
