Matt Schaub (Lisfranc fracture) underwent a procedure last week to remove hardware from his surgically repaired foot. "I had a procedure last week, getting hardware taken out, which is customary for this thing, so just let the incisions heal up and move forward," Schaub said. He reaffirmed that his recovery is "right on schedule," and it sounds like the second operation was planned. He has "no doubt" he'll be ready for Week 1.

Matt Schaub (Lisfranc surgery) will be held out of offseason team drills. Schaub is already golfing, but the Texans don't want to take any undue risks by rushing him back from a major injury. He will participate in individual drills during minicamps as well as OTA practices. Schaub should be ready for a full return to team drills by training camp.

Owner Bob McNair confirms the Texans are not in the hunt for free agent Peyton Manning. "We have a quarterback we're happy with," McNair said about Matt Schaub. Asked about Manning potentially landing with division rival Tennessee, McNair jokingly responded, "It really doesn't matter. We beat him when he was healthy, and we'll do it again." We suspect all reports that the Texans were in on Manning came from the QB's camp as a means to drive up his price tag.

Matt Schaub is due a $500,000 roster bonus on March 17. It's the same date Kevin Kolb's roster bonus comes down. Schaub's is obviously much cheaper, of course, but the bonus date gives the Texans a sort of deadline if they're serious about making a run at free agent Peyton Manning. We suspect they aren't, though nothing can be ruled out until the team actually pays the roster bonus. Schaub is also due a $7.15 million base salary.

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle is adamant that the Texans will not enter the bidding for free agent Peyton Manning. McClain insists the Texans are "happy with (Matt) Schaub," and that Houston fans can "forget about" the team making any kind of play for Manning. Schaub is entering a contract year and coming off a Lisfranc fracture, but his recovery is right on schedule, if not ahead. The Texans may look into extending Schaub's contract in the coming weeks. The last thing they want to do is give off the impression that they'd be open to moving on.

Matt Schaub (Lisfranc surgery) will undergo a follow-up procedure in April to remove metal hardware in his foot. After the procedure, Schaub will only have a tiny screw left holding his bone and ligament together. "That's customary," Schaub said, "and all the people I've talked to who've had the surgery told me it's not a problem." Schaub still has a chance to take part "to some extent" in OTAs beginning in May.

Coach Gary Kubiak fully expects Matt Schaub (Lisfranc surgery) to be 100 percent by May.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Matt Schaub's recovery from Lisfranc surgery is "ahead of schedule" and he is working out every day. The Chronicle's John McClain included this nugget in a blog post explaining why the Texans won't pursue Peyton Manning. 2012 is a crucial year for Schaub because it's the last season on his deal and first recovering from a severe, sometimes career-threatening injury. The Texans may prefer to stick with Schaub over Manning, but we'll want the latter on our 2012 fantasy team.

Matt Schaub (Lisfranc surgery) reiterated Monday that there's "no question" he'll be ready for training camp. "No, there's no question about that," he said. "I'll be ready in OTAs and doing stuff then." In ten starts during the 2011 season, Schaub posted a 15:6 TD-to-INT ratio and career-high 8.5 YPA, benefiting from an increasingly run-heavy offense. He'll be a mid-range to high-end QB2 in 2012 fantasy leagues.

Matt Schaub (Lisfranc surgery) believes he'll "most likely" be ready to participate in OTAs. "I'll most likely be ready to participate in OTAs, definitely training camp be full-go," Schaub said. Schaub still can't even put weight on his right foot, but should be able to before the end of the month. The Texans would be being aggressive with Schaub's rehabilitation if they had him participate in OTAs, but it's an achievable goal if he continues to heal on schedule.
