Manaea (back) has been cleared to start Sept. 14 in Kansas City, the Bay Area News Group's John Hickey reports.
EDGE Analysis
He will face live hitters in a simulated game Saturday, and assuming he makes it through that without any setbacks, he'll slot back into the rotation next Wednesday. Manaea has thrown 142.1 innings this year after throwing 74.1 innings in 2015, so it would seem that he should be nearing an innings cap. However, the A's have the ability to use a six-man rotation through the end of the season, which could allow Manaea to close out his first big league campaign with a few more starts.

Manaea (back) could rejoin Oakland's rotation before the season ends, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
The A's have not provided a target date for Manaea's return, but he is nearing the point in his recovery where he could be allowed to face hitters again. If he is able to do that several times in the coming weeks, he could be cleared to make another start or several before the regular season comes to a close.

Manaea (back) remains without a definitive timetable for a return, Joe Stiglich of CSN California reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manaea was scratched from his start over the weekend against the Red Sox due to the existing back soreness. While he was able to test out the injury by playing catch in the outfield Friday, Manaea said he's still experiencing some aching, so the Athletics may choose to hold him out a little longer. With Manaea ailing and Andrew Triggs (back) seemingly in line to miss his next scheduled start, the Athletics announced Sunday that Raul Alcantara and Jharel Cotton would be promoted from Triple-A Nashville this week to join the rotation.

Manaea (back) will not make his next scheduled start Sunday versus the Red Sox, John Hickey of the Bay Area News Group reports.
EDGE Analysis
At this point in time, Oakland has yet to say if they'll push Manaea's start a couple days or skip over him for an entire rotation. Information regarding his eventual return and temporary replacement should be known in the coming days.

Manaea has been diagnosed with a right rhomboid strain and is considered day-to-day, Jordan Ray of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
He left Monday's start in the fourth inning and was replaced by Chris Smith. It's unclear whether Manaea will be ready for his next scheduled start, Sunday against Boston, or who would be in line to replace him if he had to sit out.

Manaea was force to exit Monday's start against Houston with an apparent but unclear injury in the bottom of the fourth inning, John Hickey of the Bay Area News Group reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manaea was removed after a seemingly benign pickoff throw in the bottom of the fourth inning. There hasn't been word yet as to the nature of the injury, but we'll consider him day-to-day until we hear more.

Manaea (5-8) allowed one run on three hits and two walks with eight strikeouts over seven innings in a win Tuesday over Cleveland.
EDGE Analysis
This was one of Manaea's best starts, as it was just the fourth time he has completed seven innings and the third time he has reached eight strikeouts. Manaea's only mistake was a solo home run in the sixth inning by Chris Gimenez. He has to keep the ball in the yard to make the next step -- Manaea has allowed eight home runs over his last six starts, which is why he has a mediocre 4.33 ERA despite a brilliant 33:10 K:BB over 37.1 innings.

Manaea (4-8) was tagged for five runs on nine hits over six innings in Wednesday's loss to Texas. He struck out five without a walk.
EDGE Analysis
The rookie got off to a good start in this one, opening with three shutout frames and limiting Texas to three runs through six innings. But manager Bob Melvin decided to leave him in for the seventh, and he let the Rangers start a rally. He also gave up his 18th homer in 110.1 innings, one of the biggest factors in that unappealing 4.73 ERA. Manaea has plenty of potential -- he can miss bats and his control's been pretty good -- but the 24-year-old southpaw remains a work in progress. In particular, he hasn't been very effective against right-handed hitters -- they've compiled a .285/.341/.502 line against him.

Manaea earned his fourth win of the year Friday against Seattle, allowing three runs over six innings while striking out four.
EDGE Analysis
Manaea had a no-hitter through the first four innings, but a solo homer by Kyle Seager leading off the fifth ended that. Manaea stumbled a bit in the sixth allowing two runs, but turned in a very strong outing overall, giving up only three hits over his six innings. After a rough start to his rookie year that saw his ERA over six after his first nine starts, Manaea has allowed three runs or fewer in six of his last seven starts to lower his ERA to 4.57. Manaea will next take the hill Wednesday at the Rangers.

Manaea (3-7) allowed two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four over six innings to take the loss Sunday against the Cubs.
EDGE Analysis
Despite pitching well, Manaea didn't receive any run support, leading to his seventh loss of the campaign. He's started to turn things around by firing quality starts in three of his last four outings to lower his ERA to 4.58. The rookie is gaining valuable experience, and with a strong finish to the season, he could be a player to watch in 2017. He'll make his next start Friday against the Mariners.
