Shoemaker (1-2) surrendered five runs on five hits while walking three and striking out four over six innings Sunday. He was the losing pitcher of record in a 5-3 loss to Houston.
EDGE Analysis
The 30-year-old was done in by poor control (34 of 80 pitches were balls) and two home runs Sunday. Both walks (4.1 BB/9) and homers (2.1 HR/9) have been the main contributors to his 5.21 ERA through seven starts. We have seen Shoemaker can do when he brings his A-game to the mound, but that simply isn't the case right now. It would be wise to bench him or leave him on the waivers (depending on league size) until he proves that he has turned things around.

Shoemaker (1-1) gave up three runs on four hits and four walks while striking out five over 5.1 innings but came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's extra-inning win over the Mariners.
EDGE Analysis
It's been a rough start to 2017 for Shoemaker, who's been touched for multiple runs in all six of his starts and has a brutal 2.0 HR/9 through 32 innings, leading to a 4.78 ERA and even worse 5.86 FIP. He could have a tough time keeping the ball in the park in his next start Sunday at home against the Astros.

Shoemaker (1-1) gave up two earned runs on seven hits and two walks over five innings in Wednesday's 8-5 win over the Athletics. He struck out six.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran right-hander notched 13 swinging strikes and was able to stay away from the long ball for the first time in five starts this season. After an ugly seven-run performance versus the Mariners on April 9, Shoemaker has bounced back to allow just a pair of earned runs apiece in his subsequent three trips to the mound, lowering his ERA from 7.71 to 4.73 in the process. He'll look to keep matters going in the right direction in a rematch against Seattle at Safeco Field on Tuesday.

Shoemaker (0-1) allowed two runs on just three hits and two walks while striking out seven batters through seven innings during Thursday's loss to Houston.
EDGE Analysis
Shoemaker has been burned by the long ball this season, as he's allowed a home run in each of his four starts and six total, including two solo bombs Thursday. This was the first game he pitched out of the sixth inning, though, so perhaps this start will kick-start a strong run for the righty. However, you'll likely still want to be selective with the opponents you start Shoemaker against for the time being.

Shoemaker held the Royals to two runs on five hits over 5.1 innings Saturday. He walked two and struck out seven in a 3-2 loss.
EDGE Analysis
This was clearly the veteran's best start of the year after giving up nine runs in his first two outings. Shoemaker didn't pitch deep into the game, but he showed improved control and an ability to generate strikes (70 of 105 pitches for strikes). The long ball remains an issue for the 30-year-old, as he gave up another one Saturday, bringing his total to four through three starts. Shoemaker will look to carry this momentum into his next start against the dangerous -- but also right-handed heavy -- Houston Astros on Thursday.

Shoemaker gave up six runs on five hits while walking two and striking out only one in 4.1 innings for a no-decision in Sunday's 10-9 victory over the Mariners.
EDGE Analysis
It was an ugly outing for Shoemaker, but thankfully his offense bailed him out of a loss by scoring seven runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to pull out the win. Despite the rough start to the year, Shoemaker can be a decent fantasy starter with good strikeout stuff in the right matchups. He's yet to throw 200 innings in a season, though, so he needs to prove he can stay healthy in 2017.

Shoemaker pitched just five innings in Tuesday's win over Oakland, allowing two runs on four hits en route to a no-decision. He struck out four and walked three.
EDGE Analysis
Last season was a weird one for Shoemaker, who posted an 8.49 ERA and 22:13 K:BB through his first seven starts, then miraculously saw the light come on -- over the remainder of the season, he put up a 2.83 ERA with a 121:17 K:BB. In that context, this isn't such an ignominious start, but Shoemaker did labor through those five frames, throwing 99 pitches. He'll look for better results in Sunday's home start against Seattle.

Shoemaker twirled four innings of shutout ball Tuesday, striking out two in a loss to the Royals.
EDGE Analysis
This was Shoemaker's best showing since returning from a skull fracture he suffered late last season. He needed just 41 pitches to make it through his four innings of work. The right-hander has struck out 10 batters over nine innings this spring and is improving with each start. Shoemaker will look to pick up where he left off last season when he posted a 3.00 ERA post-All-Star break.

Shoemaker made his Cactus League debut Friday, giving up two runs on two hits while walking two and striking out a pair over two innings in a 7-6 win over Milwaukee.
EDGE Analysis
This was Shoemaker's first start since being struck in the head with a line drive last September. He was already pitching to live hitters in camp, and there were no reported ill effects from the injury. Shoemaker offers a unique blend of control and an ability to strike batters out (4.8 K/BB in 2016). He has a career 3.75 ERA and 3.76 FIP, so he won't cost an arm and a leg in drafts, but he offers a bit of upside over other mid-rotation fantasy starters in his tier.

Shoemaker is starting his first Cactus League game of this spring training Friday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander's 2016 season ended when he was hit in the head by a line drive in early September, but his recovery has been smooth, allowing him to enter game action with plenty of time to prepare for the 2017 season. His ERA may trend a bit higher than most owners would like, but the Shoe held some of the most underrated command peripherals in the game last year, thanks to a velocity increase and getting the most out of his dangerous changeup. Fantasy owners targeting late-round mixed league arms should put his name in bold.
