Shoemaker (1-2) surrendered five runs on five hits while walking three and striking out four over six innings Sunday. He was the losing pitcher of record in a 5-3 loss to Houston.
EDGE Analysis
The 30-year-old was done in by poor control (34 of 80 pitches were balls) and two home runs Sunday. Both walks (4.1 BB/9) and homers (2.1 HR/9) have been the main contributors to his 5.21 ERA through seven starts. We have seen Shoemaker can do when he brings his A-game to the mound, but that simply isn't the case right now. It would be wise to bench him or leave him on the waivers (depending on league size) until he proves that he has turned things around.
