Andriese's 93 pitch-outing at Triple-A Durham on Wednesday makes it highly unlikely he'll be called up for a Saturday spot start, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 26-year-old right-hander had reportedly been under consideration to be summoned up for Saturday's game against the White Sox, which will be the first occasion in 2016 when the Rays will require a fifth starter. However, Andriese was allowed to put in 5.2 innings of work Wednesday, essentially nullifying his candidacy for the opportunity.

Andriese could be in line to garner a Friday spot start versus the White Sox, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 26-year-old right-hander was optioned to Triple-A Durham back on Mar. 30 after a solid exhibition showing, but could find himself back with the big league club for the opener of a three-game series versus the White Sox. Erasmo Ramirez, slated for fifth starter duty in 2016, is also under consideration for the opportunity. Andriese tallied a 3-5 record and 4.11 ERA over eight starts in his rookie campaign last season.

Andriese was optioned to Triple-A Durham on Wednesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Andriese put together a strong spring, but couldn't quite crack the team's bullpen right out of camp. He'll certainly be in the mix as one of the team's first call-ups this season. He made 25 appearances last season for the Rays including eight starts, carrying a 4.11 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP in 65.2 innings.

Andriese, competing for a bullpen spot, was solid in a rain-shortened outing versus the Blue Jays Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Andriese allowed just a single to Josh Donaldson over his two innings of work, and then threw two additional simulated frames in the covered bullpen area. "I felt good," he said. "I was out there attacking the zone and just trying to be aggressive. It's kind of tough when you know the rain is coming, so you're just trying to make it quick. But I got my work in and I'll go from there." The 26-year-old right-hander has acquitted himself well this spring in a bid for a possible middle-relief role, posting a 1-0 record and 1.13 ERA while striking out six over eight exhibition innings.

Andriese tossed three innings Thursday and allowed one run on four hits in his first Grapefruit League game since March 8.
EDGE Analysis
He appears to be OK health-wise, but Andriese may be ticketed to begin the season in the rotation at Triple-A with the Rays having their rotation healthy as Opening Day approaches. In Thursday's outing, Andriese pounded the strike zone effectively, throwing 30 of his 39 pitches for strikes.

Andriese (abdomen) will throw a bullpen session Tuesday, Steve Carney of 620 WDAE reports.
EDGE Analysis
Andriese was scratched from his scheduled spring start Sunday with the injury, but he was able to play catch Monday and should get back up on the mound Tuesday, so it does not appear he is dealing with any sort of long-term setback.

Andriese was scratched from his slated start Sunday due to left abdominal tightness, the Tampa Bay Times' Joey Knight reports.
EDGE Analysis
Andriese plays an important role for the Rays as a swing man/long reliever, but given the Rays' starting rotation depth, he is unlikely to see many starts this season. Taylor Guerrieri will start in his place Sunday, and Andriese should be considered day-to-day.

Andriese will start for the Rays on Sunday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Andriese will join the rotation for a spot start Sunday as the Rays attempt to give Matt Moore extra rest between starts. It's possible he will make another start before the season ends, but it seems more likely that this will be his last of the 2015 campaign.

Andriese was sent back to Triple-A Durham after starting the second game of a doubleheader as the 26th man, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. This was expected, given he was only on the roster due to the doubleheader. Going forward, Andriese might not be Tampa Bay's only emergency starting pitcher given that Alex Colome will likely hit the minors when Jake Odorizzi comes back from his oblique injury.

Andriese gave up one run on four hits and three walks while striking out five in 4.2 innings Tuesday against the Royals. Andriese will likely be sent down to Triple-A by the Rays on Wednesday, as he will not be needed to take a turn in the rotation for the foreseeable future. He should continue to serve as an emergency starting pitcher for the Rays in the second half.
