Andriese (4-0) stayed undefeated, allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits over five innings in a 7-4 victory over the Twins on Saturday. He also struck out five and walked none.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander continued his strong season Saturday, as he allowed fewer than three runs for the fifth time in six outings. It was also the second time Andriese struck out five and walked none this season. The other time he did that, the righty threw a two-hit complete game shutout. Saturday, he had to work around eight hits, but he stranded five runners. Andriese will look to keep it going in his next start Friday against the Astros.

Andriese allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts over seven innings in a no-decision Monday against the Royals.
EDGE Analysis
Andriese continues his sharp performance since his callup May 8, as he now has four quality starts in his five appearances this season. He has just 20 strikeouts in 34.1 innings, but has drawn at least eight ground balls in each of his starts. He induced 13 groundball outs Monday against the Royals and has only allowed one home run all year. If he can keep the ball down like this going forward, he'll be able to keep his solid rates (2.36 ERA, 0.932 WHIP).

Andriese tossed six innings against Miami on Wednesday, allowing three runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out six.
EDGE Analysis
He received no decision in the eventual loss after leaving with the game tied. The six strikeouts marked Andriese's best performance in that category among his four starts in the majors this year -- he'd whiffed just 11 in 21.1 innings coming in. He's missed bats in the minors quite consistently over the last two seasons, so there's some promise here, but expectations should be tempered despite his sparkling 2.63 ERA. His unsustainably excellent BABIP and HR/FB rate in this small sample are sure to see some painful course correction.

Andriese allowed four runs on five hits, walking two and striking out three while lasting just 5.1 innings in a 7-5 win over Detroit on Friday night.
EDGE Analysis
Andriese (3-0) won his third straight decision, but after two exceptionally strong performances, this one wasn't exactly a masterpiece. He needed 92 pitches (59 for strikes) to record 16 outs, and he was frequently in trouble. Andriese profiles as a swingman, so he can fill multiple roles, including taking a regular turn in the rotation as needed. The Tigers are a tough challenge so this one can probably be at least partially excused, but he'll need to get back on track next time out against Miami.

Andriese (2-0) fired a complete-game shutout against the A's on Saturday, allowing only two hits. He struck out five.
EDGE Analysis
The 26-year-old came up with a gem in his second major league start of 2016, consistently neutralizing the A's lineup all afternoon. He fired 78 of his 106 pitches for strikes, and recorded first-pitch strikes on 21 of the 29 batters he faced. He also induced 11 swinging strikes, and after two starts, appears thoroughly capable of thriving at the big league level. He's surrendered only one earned run over 16 innings, leading to minuscule and matching 0.56 ERA and WHIP figures.

Andriese credits the variety of roles he played last season, including reliever, with helping him in his 2016 debut, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 26-year-old found himself relatively relaxed and focused when having to face Mike Trout and Albert Pujols with two men on in the sixth last Sunday, and believes his varied experiences last season had a lot to do with his approach. "I think that they put me in a lot of different situations last year. Now if I get in that situation in the starting role, say it's the seventh inning and I have runners on first and second, I've been there before," Andriese said. "I feel like that helps. I've done a little bit of everything." Andriese logged 17 relief appearances for the Rays last season, along with eight starts. He'll face the A's in Tampa on Saturday night, in another appearances as the fifth starter in the rotation.

Rays' manager Kevin Cash said Monday that Andriese will remain in the starting rotation, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Andriese had a solid 2016 MLB debut against the Angels where he allowed only three runs over 7.0 innings of work, ultimately picking up the win. Another start or two will determine if Andriese's first outing was legit, especially after an ERA of 4.11 over 25 appearances for the Rays last season.

Andriese allowed just one run with three strikeouts and three walks across seven strong innings Sunday versus the Angels to earn the victory.
EDGE Analysis
Making his first start of the season, the 26-year-old held a scuffling Angels lineup in check and bounced back nicely after allowing a run in the first inning. Andriese pitched well Sunday, which could ultimately earn him another turn in the rotation, but he is not currently scheduled to start during the upcoming week.

Andriese will be recalled from Triple-A to start Sunday's game against the Angels, the Tampa Bay Times' Marc Topkin reports.
EDGE Analysis
He certainly helped his case in his last outing, striking out 14 in seven shutout innings against the Pirates' Triple-A affiliate, and he also happens to be a righty, and the Rays wanted to avoid using a lefty against the Angels' righty-heavy lineup. Throw in the fact that Erasmo Ramirez pitched two innings Wednesday and it was a no brainer to bring up Andriese for Sunday's start. He is behind Blake Snell in the pecking order to get starts in the fifth spot in the rotation over the rest of the season, but there are reasons to look to Andriese as a useful option in daily leagues Sunday.

Andriese could be in line for a call-up and spot start Sunday versus the Angels, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
The speculation stems from manager Kevin Cash's commment Wednesday that his starter for Sunday's matchup is "to be determined". With the Angels hitting left-handed pitching well, and southpaw Matt Moore having been hit hard against the Dodgers on Tuesday, the potential personnel shift leaves Andriese as one of two likely candidates (with Erasmo Ramirez being the other) for the job. The 26-year-old has a 1-2 record and 3.41 ERA over six starts at Triple-A Durham this season, but is coming off a 14-strikeout performance on Tuesday versus the Indianapolis Indians. Andriese is 3-5 with a 4.11 ERA over his 25 major league appearances, with eight of those being starts.
