Kyle Gibson was knocked around for eight runs over 5 1/3 innings Thursday in a loss to the Yankees. Making his second major league start, Gibson gave up 11 hits and one walk while fanning a pair. He was charged with the final two runs after being replaced by Brian Duensing in the top of the sixth inning. Struggles are to be expected with rookie pitchers, but we still think he'll have value in mixed leagues until he runs into his innings limit. He'll get the Rays next week on the road.

Kyle Gibson held the Royals to two runs over six innings Saturday in the Twins' 6-2 victory. It was the 25-year-old right-hander's major league debut and he looked solid, pumping mid-90s fastballs with good command. Gibson yielded eight hits but he did not issue a walk and he struck out five Kansas City batters. He'll get a tough test next week when he faces the Yankees but Gibson looks like a worthy mixed fantasy league starter.

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said Friday that Kyle Gibson, P.J. Walters, or Sam Deduno will be called up to start Friday against the Tigers. The Twins optioned left-hander Pedro Hernandez to Triple-A Rochester on Monday, which immediately led to speculation that Gibson could get the call. The 25-year-old right-hander has a 3.25 ERA and 46/14 K/BB ratio in 52 2/3 innings through eight starts this season in Triple-A. Even if the Twins opt for Walters or Deduno, it's just a matter of time before Gibson arrives.

Twins general manager Terry Ryan said Kyle Gibson is not an option to replace Pedro Hernandez in the rotation. Gibson tossed a shutout Wednesday at Triple-A Rochester and now boasts a 3.32 ERA and 35/11 K/BB ratio over 40 2/3 innings. Even though it appears he won't be called up soon, the righty is a good bet to spend significant time with the big club this season.

Baseball America's Jim Shonerd believes that Kyle Gibson could be called up by the Twins if he continues to string together a few more dominant starts at Triple-A Rochester. The Twins are usually on the conservative end of promotions, but Gibson would provide an immediate upgrade to a starting rotation that currently lacks any viable starters. In six starts at the Triple-A level, Gibson has a 4.26 ERA with a 7.7 SO/9 and 1.29 WHIP. After missing the majority of 2012 due to Tommy John surgery, he's expected to be on an 130-140 innings limit this season.

Twins optioned RHP Kyle Gibson to Triple-A Rochester. Gibson posted an ugly 9.00 ERA in eight Grapefruit League innings this spring, but he would have opened the season in the minors even if his numbers were really good. The 25-year-old right-hander should make his major league debut at some point during the first half of 2013.

Kyle Gibson was pounded for six runs and eight hits in 2 1/3 innings by the Phillies on Thursday. Gibson has showed good velocity this spring, but he might be in need of some Triple-A time after missing most of 2012 following Tommy John surgery. Besides, the Twins would be smart to push back his free agency clock a year by giving him at least a month in the minors.

Kyle Gibson pitched two scoreless innings and struck out two Sunday against the Rays. Gibson reportedly topped out at 96 mph with his fastball today. The 25-year-old will be on an innings limit this year after undergoing Tommy John surgery and missing most of 2012. It makes one wonder exactly why the Twins have him pitching in games in February; he's probably not going to be available come September.

Patrick Reusse of 1500 ESPN expects Kyle Gibson to win a spot in the Twins' Opening Day rotation. Gibson is expected to be limited to 140 innings following Tommy John surgery, but is a candidate to open the season in the starting rotation if he can prove he's fully healthy in spring training. The Twins have also discussed a plan to use him as a reliever to start the year, similar to how the Braves used Kris Medlen last season. After missing the majority of 2012, Gibson has reestablished himself as the Twins' top pitching prospect and projects as a long-term No. 2 starter. His average fastball velocity was reportedly at 92-93 mph in the Arizona Fall League.
