It wouldn't be surprising if a trip to the disabled list is in his future. Chris Young (quad) isn't eligible to be activated until Friday, so the Mets could call up Kirk Nieuwenhuis for a few days. Bobby Abreu is another option, but he'd have to be added to the 40-man roster.

Lagares got to hit second behind Eric Young Jr., and he had the better day of the two, as Young settled for a bunt single in his three at-bats. The Mets don't believe Lagares is ready to be a leadoff man, but his glove should more than make up for Young's possibly OBP advantage. After all, Young, for all of his speed, had just a .310 OBP last year.

However, it doesn't look like the team has much intention of giving him a try there this spring. If Lagares manages to outplay Eric Young Jr. and hold on to his starting job, then he'll probably bat seventh or eighth, with Chris Young potentially leading off.

Mets manager Terry Collins said Friday that he's unsure whether Juan Lagares will be on the bench or at Triple-A if he doesn't win a starting job. At the moment, it looks like Collins is leaning towards having Chris Young in center field, Curtis Granderson in right and Eric Young Jr. in left. That hurts the club's defense, but Collins appears to prefer Young Jr. for the leadoff spot. Newsday's Marc Carig thinks Lagares will begin the year at Triple-A if he's not a starter at the big league level.
