Juan Lagares (hamstring) will be placed on the 15-day disabled list.
The Mets have yet to make the official announcement, but Kirk Nieuwenhuis will replace him on the active roster. Curtis Granderson (forearm, rib cage, knee) also left Monday's game, but he will avoid the disabled list for now.

Juan Lagares left Monday's game with a pulled right hamstring.
Lagares suffered the injury after reaching on a fielder's choice in the seventh inning. It wouldn't be surprising if a trip to the disabled list is in his future. Chris Young (quad) isn't eligible to be activated until Friday, so the Mets could call up Kirk Nieuwenhuis for a few days. Bobby Abreu is another option, but he'd have to be added to the 40-man roster.

Juan Lagares left Monday's game against the Diamondbacks with an apparent right hamstring injury.
Lagares reached on a fielder's choice in the seventh inning but was seen grabbing his hamstring as he crossed the base. We'll have to see what the Mets say after the game, but it's an injury that more often than not results in a trip to the disabled list. Lagares is off to a .314/.345/.471 start at the plate for the Mets.

Juan Lagares went 2-for-4 with a run scored in the Mets' loss to the Angels on Sunday.
Lagares was the only Mets hitter to have a multi-hit game, as he picked up two of the team's six hits in the contest. The center fielder was in danger of losing his roster spot near the end of camp, but he's now batting .319 and has been one of the team's best regulars through two weeks of play. He's giving the team plenty of reasons to continue starting him going forward.

Juan Lagares went 2-for-4 with a double, triple, and a run scored against the Nationals on Wednesday.
Lagares fought tooth-and-nail for a spot on the Mets' roster during the spring and he has reward the Mets with back-to-back multi-hit games to start the regular season. Lagares is a defensive wizard in center field, so anything he can provide offensively is a huge bonus for the Mets. For fantasy purposes, however, his first two games are not representative of his true talent level.

Juan Lagares went 3-for-4 with an RBI against the Astros on Wednesday.
Lagares is in a fight to earn a starting job on Opening Day -- there was even some chatter the might be left off the 25-man roster entirely -- and he made a statement with three hits, including a triple, in four at-bats Wednesday. It brings the center fielder's spring average to .302 (16-for-53) with days left before the season begins. Lagares' decent Grapefruit League numbers paired with the fact that he's one of the game's premier defensive outfielders should garner him the starting nod next week.

Juan Lagares went 2-for-3 and stole his first base Saturday as the Mets edged the Tigers 3-2.
Lagares got to hit second behind Eric Young Jr., and he had the better day of the two, as Young settled for a bunt single in his three at-bats. The Mets don't believe Lagares is ready to be a leadoff man, but his glove should more than make up for Young's possibly OBP advantage. After all, Young, for all of his speed, had just a .310 OBP last year.

Juan Lagares went 2-for-3 with a double as the Mets' No. 9 hitter against the Nationals on Friday.
Ideally, Lagares would show enough improvement this year to emerge as the Mets' leadoff hitter. However, it doesn't look like the team has much intention of giving him a try there this spring. If Lagares manages to outplay Eric Young Jr. and hold on to his starting job, then he'll probably bat seventh or eighth, with Chris Young potentially leading off.

Mets manager Terry Collins said Friday that he's unsure whether Juan Lagares will be on the bench or at Triple-A if he doesn't win a starting job.
At the moment, it looks like Collins is leaning towards having Chris Young in center field, Curtis Granderson in right and Eric Young Jr. in left. That hurts the club's defense, but Collins appears to prefer Young Jr. for the leadoff spot. Newsday's Marc Carig thinks Lagares will begin the year at Triple-A if he's not a starter at the big league level.
