Jason Hammel (forearm) received a cortisone injection Friday.
Hammel was placed on the disabled lists last week due to a right flexor mass strain in his forearm and remains without a timetable to return. He was originally hoping to be activated when first eligible, but has still has yet to resume a throwing program. "The doctors weren't able to identify a significant issue, so I'm hopeful he's going to come back and pitch for us," GM Dan Duquette said. "We'll see how he goes. But, I know he wants to come back and pitch."

O's manager Buck Showalter indicated Friday that Jason Hammel (forearm) won't return from the disabled list when first eligible.
The O's still don't have any reason to believe that the injury is elbow related, but Hammel is not progressing as quickly as they originally expected. He should be able to return to the Orioles' rotation at some point in mid-August.

Jason Hammel (forearm) will undergo an MRI on Friday.
Hammel was placed on the disabled list Wednesday with a right flexor mass strain in his forearm. The injury has bothered him on and off this season, which helps explain his disappointing 5.20 ERA this season. There should be more clarity on a timetable for his return after Friday's exam.

Jason Hammel scuffled in a loss to the Red Sox on Sunday, allowing three runs on six hits and five walks over 5 1/3 innings.
He struck out three and walked five, racking up 97 pitches before he was pulled. In other words, Hammel's fade continues, as he's now lost his last six decisions and hasn't picked up a win since May. MASN Sports speculated on Friday that Hammel's rotation spot will be in jeopardy if Baltimore acquires another starter prior to the trade deadline. If you own Hammel (7-8, 5.20 ERA) in an AL-only league, keep in kind that he may be bullpen-bound in a few days.

Jason Hammel allowed three runs on 10 hits in six innings in a loss to the Royals on Tuesday.
Hammel continues to slide, as he's now lost his last five decisions and hasn't picked up a win since May. On Tuesday he served up 10 hits and four walks, striking out four. The right-hander has a 5.20 ERA and 1.49 WHIP and is an iffy bet even in AL-only leagues at this point. He'll get the first-place Red Sox on Sunday.

Hammel was almost completely ineffective against the Jays, striking out just one while giving up 10 hits and two walks. He remains winless since the month of May, a span of eight starts. He'll carry a 7-6 record and 5.24 ERA into the second half.
