Evan Drellich of MLB.com was told by a source that the Red Sox plan to have a scout in attendance to watch Jake Peavy's start against the Tigers on Thursday.
Peavy just returned from a rib fracture over the weekend, so the Red Sox want to get a sense of his health and effectiveness. Just when Clay Buchholz (neck, back) will return is an open question, so it's only natural that the Red Sox are considering Peavy as an option. With Matt Garza off the board, the veteran right-hander might be the best starting pitcher available leading up to the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. The 32-year-old is under contract of $14.5 million next season while his contract includes a conditional $15 million player option for 2015.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Red Sox and Cardinals "appear to be emerging" as two of the potential players to land White Sox right-hander Jake Peavy in a trade.
Many have speculated on the Red Sox as a possible landing spot, as the club is trying to get Clay Buchholz (neck, shoulder) back to full health. It's a bit of a surprise to see the Cardinals mentioned given their depth, but they apparently want to add a veteran arm to the mix rather than rely on youth. With Matt Garza officially traded to the Rangers, Peavy could be considered the most high-profile starting pitcher available leading up to the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. The 32-year-old is under contract for $14.5 million next season.

Jake Peavy allowed four runs -- two earned -- over six innings Saturday in a win over the Braves.
It wasn't his sharpest outing, but the White Sox offense exploded for 10 runs on 13 hits to get Peavy his seventh victory of the season. The right-hander has a 4.19 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 69/15 K/BB ratio in 73 innings. He could be on the move at (or before) the July 31 trade deadline.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that the Red Sox will "will be watching Jake Peavy closely" over his next couple starts.
Peavy returns from the DL on Saturday, and if he pitches well in his next few outings he'll certainly draw plenty of interest on the trade market. The veteran right-hander is making $14.5 million this season and is due another $14.5 million in 2014.

Jake Peavy (rib) will be activated from the disabled list and start on Saturday against the Braves.
Peavy was cleared after tossing five innings of one-run ball in a rehab start with Double-A Birmingham last weekend. The righty held a 4.30 ERA before going on the DL, but he was knocked around in his last two starts when he was likely affected by his broken rib. He boasts a 1.16 WHIP and 66/15 K/BB ratio in 67 innings this season and will be a hot commodity on the trade market if he pitches well.

Jake Peavy (rib) tossed five innings of one-run ball in his first rehab start with Double-A Birmingham Sunday.
Peavy struck out four while allowing five hits and two walks, getting his pitch count up to 90. Assuming he feels fine after the outing, the veteran right-hander should be cleared to rejoin the White Sox' rotation just after the All-Star break.

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Diamondbacks are one of the teams that have discussed a trade for Jake Peavy.
The D'Backs seem intent on adding rotation help, as they've also been connected to Yovani Gallardo. Olney says that the White Sox have scouted Arizona's games recently and have checked out Randall Delgado. Peavy (rib) is slated to begin a rehab assignment on Sunday and will draw plenty of trade interest if he shows he's healthy.
