Ivan Nova will miss at least one start due to soreness and stiffness in his pitching shoulder.
Nova will be examined Thursday in New York, at which point the Yankees will know if he needs to miss more than the one outing. "We don't think it's anything too concerning, but we've got to make sure," manager Joe Girardi said. "Could he be a DL candidate? Possibly. But I won't know until we get some test results." David Phelps seems likely to take Nova's next turn.

Ivan Nova felt a "grab" in his right shoulder on Tuesday night and is headed to New York for tests.
Nova wound up getting pounded for six runs in six innings against the White Sox and has already been ruled out for his next scheduled start. The Yankees will obviously hope that major structural damage is ruled out by Wednesday's exam. Nova has a 4.92 ERA and 139 strikeouts in 157 1/3 innings this season.

Ivan Nova surrendered four runs in 5 2/3 innings Thursday in a no-decision versus the Rangers.
Nova has had just two quality starts (and one near miss) in seven turns since the All-Star break. It doesn't look like the Yankees will need either Nova or Phil Hughes to take a step forward in order to reach the postseason, but it sure would help them feel better about their chances once they get there.

The New York Post confirms Ivan Nova isn't in danger of losing his rotation spot.
After watching film of his last start, Nova said his troubles aren't related to mechanics, and believes that he needs to be more consistent with his secondary pitches. Barring an abomination in the final two months, he won't lose his status as the Yankees' fourth starter.

Ivan Nova pitched an impressive game against the White Sox on Thursday, allowing just one run on six hits over 7 1/3 strong innings of work.
Nova walked three and punched out five on the night. The lone blemish against him in the game came courtesy of a solo shot from Alejandro De Aza in the fifth inning.
