Ivan Nova was pummeled in a no-decision against the Athletics on Saturday afternoon, allowing three runs on five hits in just 2 1/3 innings.
Nova walked two and struck out two. The A's struck for a pair of runs in the first inning, then added a solo shot by Stephen Drew before Nova departed in the third inning. Since returning from the disabled list, the Yankees right-hander has posted a 5.40 ERA and 10/4 K/BB ratio in two starts. He'll attempt to get back in the win column when he does battle against the Blue Jays in Toronto on Thursday.

Ivan Nova dazzled in his return to the Yankees' rotation on Saturday, allowing two runs on four hits over his six-plus innings of work in a win over the Rays.
Nova racked up eight strikeouts while walking two in the game. He cruised through the first five innings unscathed until Evan Longoria blasted a solo homer to get the Rays on the board in the sixth. They added another on an RBI single from Luke Scott in the seventh, chasing Nova from the game. He'll head into Friday's home match-up against the Athletics with a 12-7 record and 4.85 ERA.

Ivan Nova will take Freddy Garcia's spot in the Yankees' rotation starting on Saturday against the Rays.
Garcia gets the boot after failing to go beyond 5 1/3 innings in any of his previous four outings. He'll move into a long relief role, while Nova will make his first start since August 21, when he suffered a shoulder injury. The shakeup with the Yanks' rotation likely isn't finished, as they figure to replace David Phelps with Andy Pettitte (ankle) soon.

Ivan Nova threw a simulated game Tuesday.
Nova was activated from the disabled list over the weekend, but the Yankees delayed the simulated game because they thought he might be needed out of the bullpen against the Orioles. "I had felt that he probably needed to see some more hitters before we could feel good about putting him in a game," manager Joe Girardi said. "I thought he looked good today. If he feels good tomorrow, we'll make a decision what's next for him." David Phelps is scheduled to start Wednesday, but it's possible Nova will replace him after that.

Yankees activated RHP Ivan Nova from the 15-day disabled list.
Nova is with the team and listed on the active roster, but there is still no set date for his return to action. The right-hander is likely to pitch out of the bullpen initially.

Ivan Nova (shoulder) could return from the disabled list Wednesday against the Red Sox.
There were reports that Nova could be used as a reliever when he returned, but he'll presumably start in place of David Phelps. Manager Joe Girardi said the Yankees are "on rotation" for the rest of the weekend with CC Sabathia and Freddy Garcia.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Ivan Nova (shoulder) is ready to rejoin the rotation, but he's yet to pick the day he'll return.
The team had been considering moving Nova to a relief role, but David Phelps' struggles of late squashed that idea. Nova has been sidelined since August 23 due to rotator cuff inflammation.

Ivan Nova (shoulder) threw 30 pitches in a bullpen session Thursday.
Nova also threw a bullpen session on Tuesday. It's not clear what the next step might be, but he's getting closer to activation. The Yankees are currently considering using him in a relief role upon his return.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman think it's realistic Ivan Nova (shoulder) could return from the disabled list in mid-September.
Nova was placed on the disabled list last week due to right rotator cuff inflammation, but he's already close to resuming a throwing program. He could make progress quickly if there are no setbacks. The 25-year-old right-hander has a 4.92 ERA and 139/50 K/BB ratio over 157 1/3 innings over 25 starts this season.

Ivan Nova (shoulder) could resume throwing on Tuesday.
Nova expects to return from his rotator cuff inflammation after missing just two starts. "It feels better," Nova said. "I've given it a couple of days, so I've got to wait until I start throwing and see how it feels. Right now, it feels good."
