It looked like an ideal matchup for the youngster, especially considering that he had won three starts in a row, amassing a 2.18 ERA in the process. But Kansas City solved him pretty easily, collecting two homers in addition to the 10 hits. Gonzalez drops to 12-12 with a 3.43 ERA.

He is now the owner of a 2.59 ERA and 1.30 WHIP to go along with a 90/43 K/BB ratio.

A's pitchers fanned 16 in all, with Joey Devine striking out the side in the seventh after replacing Gonzalez. Gonzalez wasn't efficient in this one, throwing 109 pitches to get 18 outs, but he did get plenty of run support for once. The win was his first since May 17. He's 6-5 with a 2.69 ERA.
