Gio Gonzalez got lit up by the Royals Tuesday, allowing seven runs -- six earned -- on 10 hits and three walks in five innings of Oakland's 7-4 loss. It looked like an ideal matchup for the youngster, especially considering that he had won three starts in a row, amassing a 2.18 ERA in the process. But Kansas City solved him pretty easily, collecting two homers in addition to the 10 hits. Gonzalez drops to 12-12 with a 3.43 ERA.

Gio Gonzalez didn't pitch like an All-Star Friday, giving up seven runs - three earned - on seven hits and three walks over just four innings in a loss to the Rangers. He struck out five but served up three homers, including a grand slam to Mike Napoli in the first inning. Thanks to four unearned runs, Gonzalez's ERA is still largely intact, but this was his worst effort of the season. Still, the young left-hander finishes the first half with a sparkling ERA (2.47) and WHIP (1.27) while striking out nearly a batter per inning.
