Clayton Richard yielded five runs over 6 2/3 innings in Monday's loss to the Cubs.
It was his longest outing of the spring. Richard held the Cubs scoreless over the first three innings before he gave up one in the fourth, three in the fifth and one more in his final inning of work. All told, he allowed seven hits -- including a three-run homer by Dave Sappelt -- while striking out four and walking none. Coming off a 3.99 ERA in 33 starts last season, Richard is expected to be the club's Opening Day starter.

Clayton Richard was rocked for five runs on nine hits and a walk over five innings in Wednesday's win over the Angels.
He struck out just one on the day and served up a two-run homer to Peter Bourjos. Richard always struggles everywhere but Petco Park, so it's no surprise that he got knocked around in this one. He'll continue to be a solid spot starter when at home this season.

Clayton Richard made his Cactus League debut Sunday against the White Sox.
Richard didn't allow a run over two innings and gave up two walks. His control looked spotty, but the White Sox weren't able to get any hits off him and he managed to induce a double play in his only run-scoring situation. The Padres threw a combined four-hit shutout in the win.

Padres and LHP Clayton Richard avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract.
Terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed, but it's likel to be in the range of $5.25 million. Richard was the last arbitration eligible player remaining in the league. Richard posted a respectable 3.99 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in 2012, and is a strong fantasy option when used for his home starts at Petco Park.

Clayton Richard requested $5.55 million and was offered $4.905 million from the Padres when arbitration figures were exchanged Friday.
Perhaps the Padres most consistent starter from the 2012 campaign, Richard seems likely to earn around $5.2 million. He pitched a career high 218 2/3 innings in 2012, and despite leading the league in home runs allowed (31), managed to keep his ratios respectable with a 3.99 ERA and 1.24 WHIP. He makes for a decent late-round flier, especially when skimming his home starts.

Clayton Richard was tagged for five runs over seven innings Monday in a loss to the Brewers.
Richard gave up 10 hits (including three homers) while striking out three and walking none. The southpaw has served up 31 homers this season, but 21 of them have been on the road. With a 3.99 ERA over 218 2/3 innings, he has had a pretty solid season, though he's mostly a spot-start option in mixed fantasy leagues.

Clayton Richard was knocked around by the Dodgers Wednesday, giving up six runs -- four earned -- on 10 hits over just 3 2/3 innings.
Richard entered the game with a 3.03 second-half ERA and a 2.75 mark at Petco Park, but he was off from the get-go in this one. The loss is just his second over his last 11 outings. He'll bring a 3.91 ERA and 1.23 WHIP into his final start next week in Milwaukee.

Clayton Richard took a no-decision in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Dodgers, allowing three runs on 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings.
He struck out one and walked one. Tonight was the first time all season Richard failed to complete five innings of work, and just the fifth time in 29 starts he didn't complete at least six frames. Now the owner of a 3.78 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 94/40 K/BB ratio through 195 innings, Richard will get the Cardinals at home next Tuesday.
