Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune writes that Carlos Quentin (shoulder) "didn't sound overly convincing" when talking about the possibility of playing Friday.
White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen is still hopeful Quentin will be ready to give it a go at some point over the weekend, but it sounds like Saturday or Sunday is a more likely possibility. The outfielder left Saturday's game after making a diving catch and was subsequently diagnosed with a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder.

The White Sox hope that Carlos Quentin (shoulder) will be ready to return by this weekend.
Quentin, who was diagnosed Sunday with a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder, will not play in the two-game series against the Angels, but it sounds like he'll avoid the DL after experiencing improved range of motion. Quentin is batting .255/.341/.501 with 24 homers this season.

Carlos Quentin has been diagnosed with a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder.
An X-ray on the shoulder came back clean, but an MRI revealed the sprain. Quentin is considered day-to-day for now, and whether or not he winds up on the disabled list will likely depend on how much pain he can tolerate. The White Sox started Alejandro De Aza in right field Sunday, with Alex Rios handling center.

Quentin left Saturday's game against the Rangers in the first inning after injuring his left shoulder making a diving catch on Craig Gentry's blooper. He will be examined further on Sunday. Consider him day-to-day for now. Alex Rios, who replaced him Saturday, would probably start Sunday if Quentin isn't available.

Carlos Quentin is not in the starting lineup Thursday night against the Indians.
Quentin is just 3-for-18 (.167) on the team's current homestand, so he'll take a seat against right-hander Justin Masterson. Alejandro De Aza will take his place in right field while Alex Rios plays center field and Adam Dunn bats cleanup.

Carlos Quentin hit a pair of home runs while notching four RBI on Friday, leading the White Sox past the Twins 8-4 in Minnesota.
Quentin now has eight RBI in just five games since the calendar flipped to August, giving him 70 on the season. He's a good bet to reach 85 RBI for the third time in four years since arriving in Chicago in 2008.

MLB Network's Peter Gammons reports that White Sox GM Kenny Williams hasn't gotten the young, left-handed bat he desires for Carlos Quentin and is expected to hang on to the outfielder.
Of course, things could change over the next 24 hours, but with the White Sox very much still in contention in the AL Central, they're not going to give up one of their best hitters until another team blows them away with an offer. They might have been willing to take less had Dayan Viciedo (thumb) been healthy, as he could have taken over for Quentin. The Red Sox and Braves have been the biggest pursuers over Quentin.
