Conley looks poised to open the season as the Marlins' No. 5 starter, MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports.
EDGE Analysis
Though manager Don Mattingly has yet to announce his fifth starter, the demotion of Justin Nicolino to Triple-A New Orleans on Tuesday likely means that Conley has claimed those duties, as his remaining competitor, Jose Urena, is preferred in long relief. Conley's longer track record of success at the big-league level was enough to give him in the edge for the starting gig, but Nicolino vastly outperformed him in spring training. As a result, Conley, who logged a 6.94 ERA and 1.89 WHIP in 11.2 innings in Grapefruit League play, may not have an especially long leash if his spring struggles carry over to the regular season.

Conley may not break camp in the Marlins' rotation, Tim Healey of the Sun-Sentinel reports.
EDGE Analysis
Miami will roll with Edinson Volquez, Dan Straily, Tom Koehler and Wei-Yin Chen in the first four spots in their rotation to begin the season, leaving Conley fighting with Jose Urena for the fifth starter job. Both pitchers turned in good performances Friday but it was Urena who got the start, perhaps indicating that the Marlins are leaning towards having Conley begin the year in a long relief role or even with Triple-A New Orleans. The fact that Urena is out of options, while Conley can still be optioned to the minors, also doesn't play in his favor. The 26-year-old lefty was viewed as a possible breakout candidate in 2017 after spending his first full season in the majors last year, but his fantasy value would take a big hit if he's unable to secure a rotation spot coming out of camp.

Conley gave up seven runs (four earned) on five hits and three walks while striking out three over 2.2 innings during Sunday's split-squad game against the Nationals.
EDGE Analysis
While his defense did Conley few favors in this one, the lefty still carries an unsightly 9.35 ERA and 2.19 WHIP through 8.2 spring innings. If there's a positive to take away from those numbers, it's that none of the 16 hits he's served up have left the yard, but Conley is still running out of time to build up any confidence heading into Opening Day.

Conley says he's fine after being struck by a line drive on the right calf during Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals, The Miami Herald reports. "Usually what I like to tell myself is that the ball weighs five ounces, so how bad can it hurt?" Conley said after the game.
EDGE Analysis
The results weren't pretty for the 26-year-old lefty in his first action of the spring, as he allowed four runs on five hits in one inning, but results aren't particularly important in the last week of February. Conley is all but locked into a spot in the Marlins' rotation to begin the season, but manager Don Mattingly has made it clear that he intends to lean heavily on a deep bullpen, so wins could be hard to come by for Conley if he doesn't show a dramatic improvement in his ability to pitch deep into games.

Conley altered his diet and workout routine this offseason in an effort to improve his stamina in 2017, The Sun-Sentinel reports. "I was born a tall skinny guy," Conley said. "Rather than try to change that, I'm going to use what I have to the best of my ability and just be as strong and as durable as possible."
EDGE Analysis
A finger injury cost him over a month of action in the second half last year, but more worrying was a drop in velocity -- after occasionally touching 97 mph with his fastball in April, he wound up averaging just 91.0 mph on the season. If Conley can maintain his heat into the summer, the 26-year-old could improve on his career-high 8.4 K/9 in 2016, but he'll also need to work on his 4.2 BB/9 if he's going to take a significant step forward in his development.

Conley (finger) threw three shutout innings against the Mets on Monday, allowing just a pair of hits and a walk while striking out two in his first start since coming off the DL.
EDGE Analysis
The Marlins were clearly planning on using the bullpen heavily Monday, as they pulled their young left-hander after three shutout innings and just 45 pitches in his first start since Aug. 14. Conley was 8-6 with a 3.94 ERA in 24 starts before landing on the DL, and showed no signs of rust in his return. He's lined up to start against the Nationals in the final game of the regular season Sunday, although its quite possible his upside will be limited with a pitch count as it was Monday.

The Marlins activated Conley (finger) from the disabled list Monday, MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports.
EDGE Analysis
Conley is set to return to action after missing nearly a month and a half with his finger injury. He will jump right into the Marlins' rotation Monday night and take the ball against the Mets, a team he has limited to just two runs in 12 innings over two starts this season.

Conley's (finger) scheduled start for Sunday against the Braves was pushed back after the game was cancelled following the tragic death of teammate Jose Fernandez.
EDGE Analysis
Fernandez, 24, was one of three people pronounced dead Sunday morning after a boat crash off of Miami Beach. One of the game's most magnetic stars and transcendent talents, Fernandez is a devastating loss for the organization and the sport as a whole, so Major League Baseball wisely decided to give the Marlins some time to grieve his loss. Conley, who was scheduled to come off the DL and start Sunday for the first time since Aug. 13, is now in line to take the hill Monday against the Mets, a start that was originally reserved for Fernandez.

Conley (finger) will come off the DL to start Sunday's game against the Braves, the Miami Herald's Clark Spencer reports.
EDGE Analysis
Those who have been holding onto Conley will be rewarded with a favorable start against the Braves on Sunday, followed by a possible second start before the end of the season against the Nationals next weekend. Jose Fernandez was pushed from Sunday to Monday to accommodate Conley's return.

Conley (finger) is scheduled to throw 45 pitches in a simulated game Wednesday, MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
With less than two weeks remaining in the regular season, Conley simply doesn't have time to build his pitch count up enough to return to the rotation, but he appears on track to contribute out of the Marlins' bullpen before the end of the year. Conley said he thinks "the biggest thing is just to eliminate any doubt or question mark with the health of my hand." Conley posted a 3.94 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 122:61 K:BB in 24 starts before hitting the DL and should compete for a rotation spot in spring training.
