Conley may not break camp in the Marlins' rotation, Tim Healey of the Sun-Sentinel reports.
EDGE Analysis
Miami will roll with Edinson Volquez, Dan Straily, Tom Koehler and Wei-Yin Chen in the first four spots in their rotation to begin the season, leaving Conley fighting with Jose Urena for the fifth starter job. Both pitchers turned in good performances Friday but it was Urena who got the start, perhaps indicating that the Marlins are leaning towards having Conley begin the year in a long relief role or even with Triple-A New Orleans. The fact that Urena is out of options, while Conley can still be optioned to the minors, also doesn't play in his favor. The 26-year-old lefty was viewed as a possible breakout candidate in 2017 after spending his first full season in the majors last year, but his fantasy value would take a big hit if he's unable to secure a rotation spot coming out of camp.
