Hamonic (lower body) won't play Saturday against the Flyers.
EDGE Analysis
It isn't clear when Hamonic suffered the injury, but it will cost him at least one game Saturday against Philadelphia. The 25-year-old blueliner will hope to return to action Tuesday against the Blue Jackets. Scott Mayfield will draw into the Islanders' lineup Saturday in Hamonic's absence.

Hamonic missed practice Friday supposedly just to be given a day off.
EDGE Analysis
The reason there is some speculation as to why Hamonic was absent is because the team recalled Scott Mayfield from Bridgeport later that day. The Isles could just be playing it safe here but they are also one of those teams that is far from forthcoming when it comes to injuries. If Hamonic were to miss some time because of injury it would be a major blow to the Islanders as they are already extremely thin on defense without Johnny Boychuk who is out for another month with a shoulder injury. Very few teams, let alone the Islanders, can afford to lose their top two defenders and still perform at a high level.

The odds of Hamonic being traded during the season take a big hit due to the injury to Johnny Boychuk, reports Newsday.
EDGE Analysis
Hamonic requested a trade during the off-season for personal reasons in order to play closer to his home in western Canada. The Islanders have tried to accommodate him but haven't been able to find a willing trade partner. What has hurt their ability to trade Hamonic is his team friendly contract and that the Isles would almost certainly need a defensemen back of his caliber. It really doesn't make sense for a team that wanted to acquire Hamonic to give up the same caliber of defender in return. Hamonic eventually will be dealt, but it may have to wait until after the season as the Islanders would then have more options about what they can accept in return.

Hamonic is not having the kind of season the Islanders were hoping offensively.
EDGE Analysis
It's fair to wonder if the trade request is wearing on him. Unfortunately for Hamonic the Islanders haven't been able to get the return they want for his services and some believe they may not be able to until after the season. Hamonic is a valuable defensemen for the Islanders, something they can't replace yet from their own system so they would want another defender in return. Also complicating matters is that Hamonic is signed to a very team friendly contract (under $4 million per season until 2019). Hamonic may have to wait until July to be moved.

Hamonic snapped his goose egg in his 20th game of the season in a 5-3 loss to Montreal on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Hamonic scored just 39 seconds into the second period to pull the Islanders within one. Even though the talented defenseman has requested a trade out of Brooklyn, the off-ice distractions have not seemed to make an impact on Hamonic's play. Hamonic was second among the Islanders in ice time and also fired seven shots on goal to go with his four hits. If he does get traded, the Islanders will have a big void to fill on the blue line. If he can score just a little more often, he could be a valuable fantasy asset.

Hamonic has requested a trade from the Islanders, reports Newsday.
EDGE Analysis
Apparently Hamonic requested this trade at some point before the beginning of the regular season and the Islanders are doing their best to accommodate him. Hamonic has mentioned that the reason for the request has nothing to do with the Islanders but is a personal matter as he would like to be traded closer to his family in western Canada. Hamonic may be the Islanders best overall defenseman so it won't be an easy sell as general manager Garth Snow has already stated that he doesn't want prospects or draft picks in return but is searching for a defenseman of equal value.

Hamonic is averaging 24 minutes on the ice through five regular season games.
EDGE Analysis
Hamonic ranks 13th in the NHL in time spent on the ice and first on his team by almost three minutes. However, the impressive playing time has not translated into points for the second-line defenseman as he's only managed one assist in five games. Hamonic's chances to improve look promising since he's attempted 12 shots and will likely continue to receive over 20 minutes per contest.

Hamonic blasted a slap shot for his first exhibition score in Wednesday's win over the Devils.
EDGE Analysis
Hamonic received 25:14 of ice time, significantly more than his average (21:47) last season, suggesting that he's not bothered by the Grade 3 MCL tear that kept him out of the most recent postseason. Fresh off a 33-point year with the surging Islanders, Hamonic will likely be included on the second defensive pairing for the upcoming campaign.

Hamonic (knee) said the Grade 3 MCL tear that prevented him from playing in the postseason presented no problems during his offseason workouts, Newsday's Arthur Staple reports.
EDGE Analysis
The injury was an unfortunate end to a banner season for Hamonic, who established career marks with 33 points, a plus-15 rating, and 213 hits. He's positioned to fill a top-four role on defense for the Islanders during the coming season.

Hamonic relayed Tuesday that the injury that sidelined him of late was a torn left MCL, Newsday's Arthur Staple reports.
Hamonic, who last suited up on April 10, noted Tuesday that if the Isles had advanced past the Caps on Monday, that he hoped to play by the end of the second round of the NHL playoffs. With the Islanders having been eliminated, however, Hamonic now has the offseason to recover and he should be back at full strength well before the team re-assembles in advance of the 2015-16 season.
