Hamonic has requested a trade from the Islanders, reports Newsday.

Apparently Hamonic requested this trade at some point before the beginning of the regular season and the Islanders are doing their best to accommodate him. Hamonic has mentioned that the reason for the request has nothing to do with the Islanders but is a personal matter as he would like to be traded closer to his family in western Canada. Hamonic may be the Islanders best overall defenseman so it won't be an easy sell as general manager Garth Snow has already stated that he doesn't want prospects or draft picks in return but is searching for a defenseman of equal value.
