Hamonic missed practice Friday supposedly just to be given a day off.

The reason there is some speculation as to why Hamonic was absent is because the team recalled Scott Mayfield from Bridgeport later that day. The Isles could just be playing it safe here but they are also one of those teams that is far from forthcoming when it comes to injuries. If Hamonic were to miss some time because of injury it would be a major blow to the Islanders as they are already extremely thin on defense without Johnny Boychuk who is out for another month with a shoulder injury. Very few teams, let alone the Islanders, can afford to lose their top two defenders and still perform at a high level.
