The odds of Hamonic being traded during the season take a big hit due to the injury to Johnny Boychuk, reports Newsday.
EDGE Analysis
Hamonic requested a trade during the off-season for personal reasons in order to play closer to his home in western Canada. The Islanders have tried to accommodate him but haven't been able to find a willing trade partner. What has hurt their ability to trade Hamonic is his team friendly contract and that the Isles would almost certainly need a defensemen back of his caliber. It really doesn't make sense for a team that wanted to acquire Hamonic to give up the same caliber of defender in return. Hamonic eventually will be dealt, but it may have to wait until after the season as the Islanders would then have more options about what they can accept in return.
