Gomez factored in on both of his team's goals with two assists in Monday's 2-1 win over the Hurricanes. The two points were Gomez's first of the season after being signed by the Devils last week. He managed one shot on goal and one hit while winning just eight of 20 faceoffs. Not the most inspiring start to Gomez's second go-'round with New Jersey, as that's a lot of ice time for not a lot of stats, but the fact that he skated such heavy minutes does offer a small amount of promise for fantasy owners.

Gomez's affinity for the organization from his time there during the Devils' two Stanley Cup runs likely motivated his decision to continue practicing with the team, rather than pursuing an opportunity elsewhere.

Scott Gomez wasn't available to play Thursday because of an illness. It was the second straight he missed as a result of not feeling well. Gomez has appeared in only 46 games with the Panthers this season, most of which he missed as a healthy scratch. He has two goals and 12 points this year.
