Gomez grabbed an assist in Friday's preseason shootout loss to the Islanders and is hoping to impress enough to earn a roster spot. Gomez is attending training camp on a tryout basis but there are not many roster spots available amongst New Jersey's forward corps. His assist came on the power play and he's always been a good playmaker in his career but there is no guarantee of a roster spot. Even if Gomez makes the team, there's little assurance he will see significant ice time.
